OK, I researched the website and the posts here, but I have a few questions still:

1. I notice some blades are INFI, others are Modified INFI. What's the difference?

2. I can't find any info as to what's in this steel. What's in it?

3. How corrosion resistant is the steel? Does it require a ton of TLC to keep it neat and clean?

4. How well does respirene hold up to long hours in subzero temps or tropical temps and desert sun?

Thanks, in advance, for any input.

Patiently awaiting a nuclear response, or any response for that matter.

Check out Cliff Stamp's review of the Battle Mistress to answer some of the questions about corrosion:

As for special ingredients, from what I have read on it, INFI has nitrogen in it. Modified INFI (M-INFI) is only slightly less indestructible than regular INFI, which is to say that they are both bombproof. The difference is supposedly that M-INFI is easier to manufacture. But many on this forum might say that the real magic to making INFI is to first prime the maker with copious quantities of Black Label.

Sorry, I can't address the issue of respirene in extreme temps, having no personal experience testing it. I seem to recall that Cliff cut the handle off of a Busee Basic (Model 7, maybe?) for one of his reviews.

Stay sharp,
Greg

Thanks for the info Greg!

Concerning the basic handle material. It holds up fine in regards to low temperatures. I have used in in -30 and below and have beat on it with a hammer to see if I could fracture it - no go. It also holds up fine at about 35 or so which is as hot as it gets here.

Concerning higher temperatures, I exposed mine to open flame and it first goes soft and then blackens and then starts to smoke. It is not as resistant as G10 and Micarta but a lot more so than Kraton. You can actually use this to fix problems with cuts in the handle. Just heat up the grip and mash it together. Mine actually had my thumbprint in the back for awhile.

Concerning corrosion, it is not a steel that rusts readily. I have done corrosion soaks on both blades and they clean off readily. My BM has a few small spots of black rust left on it from the last corrosion soak I did, nothing serious. The Basic I gave to my brother has never been oiled since he got it. Last time I checked it had no rust, but it gets used constantly.

Thanks, Cliff! Maybe I will get me one a these things now.
