I'm going to pick up a Mule. I have two choices. CTS-XHP or CRUWEAR. The CRUWEAR has been properly heat treated with the recall. Now which would you choose assuming they are the same price? I'm going to be using it in the kitchen a lot, but I'm also going to use it hunting and in the woods. Skinning small game, a little fire work etc... So which steal would be better suited for this purpose? I will be adding scales to it as well if that matters. Thanks!

CTS-XHP is stainless where Cruwear is not. So if rust/patina is a concern I would think the XHP would be best. However I have heard good things about how well Cruwear holds an edge. Neither steel you listed is bad. You would be good with either. But for kitchen I would go with XHP

Patina isn't a problem I kind of enjoy getting a patina through use but however no one likes rust. Unfortunately I can't afford both at the moment otherwise I would get them both.

That I'm not sure of yet. Was just browsing Ebay for a start, any suggestions?

It's fairly easy and fun to make your own. Otherwise, I like the Halpern scales. As for the steel, I would probably go with CTS for your application.

The CRUWEAR mule I was considering comes with blue halpern scales but I really didn't want to pay $125 for it. The CTS is a blank and would require me to find scales and a sheath.
