Well it's time to replace my old Magnum Stealth II boots. They had a good run but I'm starting to wear through the heal at this point. So this is what I'm looking for:
Features
-Black
-8" height
-polishable toe
-waterproof
-No side zip
-tread good for indoor/outdoor ground, mud, snow, and ice.
-$200 max though I would rather stick to the $150 range

The boots will be used for a few different tasks. Running when weather is wet, snowy, or cold. They will be my usual footwear between early fall and late spring. And they will also be used as "nicer" shoes when dressing up.

So far these are the two models I have narrowed the options down to:
Danner Kinetic

Magnum Elite Force 8.0 WPi

Let me know which you think is better or if you have any others you wish to recommend.
Thanks.

I had some ADIDAS GSG-9.2s that were pretty comfy. I also like the look of some of the Under Armour boots... ...Speed Freak and I think they have a couple other styles that look okay too. I'm not impressed with the non-USA Danners or 5.11 boots.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Garmont boots are mostly shorter than what I'm looking for and have more of a backpack boot look than I am going for. The Adidas and Under Armour boots are a bit too sneakerish.

ElConquistador what is about the non-USA Danners or 5.11s that you don't like. I have never had a pair of either.

I wear 8 in boots everyday.
These do have a zip side but are the best wearing, most comfortable I have found yet.
I am about 1 year into my first pair of them. That is saying something as most boots only last me about 6 months.I have a second pair on order. They are still water proof and I have not had the first problem with the zippers.

Im wearing these right now my good comfortable boots cant say one bad thing abought them my first boots with a zipper a nice thing when you want to get em off quick.

I wear 9" Bates Navy- issue black steeltoe Durashocks. I like them, but be prepared for sole seperation after about a year of every day wear.

Go with the Danners. Make sure they are made in the USA. Other wise there like the rest of the junk made in Taiwan etc.

Your link for the Danner's didn't work for me but I wear 8" Danner Acadias and like them very much. When I'm not wearing them i have on the GTX Striders (?), the 6" chukar style boots. Very comfortable.

Yeah, forgot to mention in my last post, Danners are the absolute best boot I have ever had the pleasure of slipping my feet into. The only reason that I am not wearing Danners right now is because the pair I had was not recraftable, and I found a good deal on the bates (factory seconds, $50, not worth the $250 they're going for now) that could get here before the Danners even got shipped.
IMO you should find a good USA made Danner boot you like, save up for it, and when the day comes that you have to either get it resoled or get a new boot, send it back to Danner for recrafting. (Note- Replaceable soles must have entirely stitched on construction, with no glued portions)

I'm looking for boots as well. I really like the Danners. But I understand that some the lower costing models are China made with a glued, not stitched, sole. I was looking for a pair for a dry and hot climate. The Danner Aracadias seem to be the best for that, and they cost a good $100 more then the similar looking China made models. The Under Armor boots could work for me as well. I've heard good things about them. I'd get those bates if I found them for $50. Actually, any good boot bargain would be tempting to me. I'm not wanting to spend $300 on a pair of boots. These look great http://www.danner.com/boots/dannerr-usmc-rat-hot-steel-toe-military-boots.html
Do you think they would sell these on a base? Maybe the uniform shop? I have a marine core base nearby that allows civilians on base.

They should be sold through AAFEES at USMC bases, not absolutely sure, but I would think.
I'd say check the PX. Good luck in your search!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I decided to go with the Kinetic. There's just something about the boot that kept me coming back to it. The sole pattern looks less aggressive than I'm used to but was told it should be able to handle what I plan on doing. It will be a bit of a wait before they arrive and I'll let you know what my first impressions are. A solid review will take about a year or so of wear.

When it comes to Tactical Boots for men the selection is wide open for most guys. Unfortunately for Big men like me who need Large Size Tactical Boots size 15, 16, 17 and larger, we are usually SOL. (sorry out of luck) Tall Guys like me don't even bother walking into stores since they only carry boots up to size 13 and 14 if your lucky, and with my size 17's it's like forget about it.

I used to ask every tall officer I met what type of tactical boots he wore and where a tall guy can find a pair with or without side-zip. Overwhelmingly I was told to go to XLfeet.com., and boy am I glad I did. The owner Adrian has size 16 feet himself, and they have Big Mens Tactical Boots in large sizes. I ordered and received my boots the next day. If you happen to be a fellow Bigfoot, be sure to help support both the Bigfoot movement and other Bigfoots by getting your large footwear, not just tactical boots at XLfeet. Plus look at the "Offensive Tee Shirt" as my mother-in-law calls it that I got with my boots.

I have now used both Magnum and Belleville. Personally I prefer the lighter weight Magnums with their moisture wicking sock liners. The price is good on Magnum too. I would say though that the Bellevilles do last way longer. It seems as though you can either get a lightweight boot or a boot that lasts a long time, and Magnum seems offer the max on both.
