My old daily wear boots just died on me. So, I am looking for a new pair. I normally pick up either 5-11 or Magnum side-zip boots. Both of them are comfortable to wear on concrete and last a while for a relatively cheap price. Well, I have been unable to find anything under $75 and was wondering if there are any other types of boots I should try out.

What is everyone wearing?

And if anyone is interested in finding me a deal.

Size 12 Medium
8" high
Black
w. Side Zip.

If you can find me a deal your Internet Fu is better than mine!

I used to buy inexpensive boots (Magnum) and some off brand stuff from military surplus or from the PX. I bought a pair of Danner boots and I'll tell you that they are the bet pair of boots I've owned for around $175. Yes, they are expensive, but I do a lot of walking, climbing, crawling, and running around at work. I just don't want to risk back injury or foot pain with crappy shoes. Aside from that, Danner will recondition your boots for a nominal fee.

For cheap boots, I have been impressed with Rockport Works fury military boots I got on closeout for $30 a pair delivered.

511s are OK for the money but gonna 2nd the Danners last you a lot longer .

I would get a pair of the Danners Kinetic GTX in a minute if I could get them for $70.

Sid, I'll check out the Rockport Works Fury boots. Thanks for the tip!

Just got a pair of Danner DFA Boots for $90 haven't had a chance to wear them yet but they seem to be solid boots.

Keep an eye on craigslist. Picked up a used pair of Danner Talus waterproof boots for $50 not that long ago. The guy said he wore them hiking a couple times but did not like the fit. Looked new to me.

I still have a pair of Danner Ft. Lewis Go Devil boots that i bought 26 yrs ago. Been resoled 3x. It is now more expensive to have resoled than i paid for them. Sad. Best boots EVER. NO break-in period either. Comfy right out of the box.

I have owned both Danner boots and rocky boots in the style you described. They were of equal quality, and both lasted two years on the job(construction). The rocky boots cost about half what the danners cost. Also if you go to Rockys website check the clearance section. Usually lots to be had cheap in a size twelve.

Wolverine steel toes here. So far, they are holding up well and the steel toes have prevented some mashed toes by logs many times already.

Side-zip boots? Eeew. Zippers don't belong on boots, lol. Why not considering saving up for a pair of whites or something? They are very expensive, but so is throwing away a pair of $75 boots every couple years...

I'm following this thread cause I need a pair of good boots for work and play. I learned that I have to buy good quality sneaker and or boots or I get hurting feet, I wish it wasn't so but that's how it works for me, and the cheaper ones always wear out quicker. I just trading in a car and got a truck and 2 of the sales men ride atv and hunt, so I asked them. They said danner boots are worth every penny. He has had his for 2 years and is very happy. Good thread guess I'll have to just try something to know myself.
Thanks

Danner combat boots seem to do okay. I wore a pair of them for a few years. They lasted a long time before they got so nasty looking that I couldn't really wear them unless in the field.

Just got my 2nd pair of HiTec Altitude IV for a little over $100. Got the first pair 9 years ago and they aren't completely
gone yet. I'm on my feet all day and, although I rotate pairs of shoes a couple of times a week with other brands, these
have been the best work boots I have ever had.

Nordstrom has several styles of Red Wing boots on sale---I just bought a pair that is normally $250 for $150---top quality and American made-----and a steal at $100 off. You can have them resoled at any Red Wing store.

My go to work boots have been my Red Wings. I used them for 3 years working in a home improvement store while in college and I still used them when I am out doing survey work at my current job. They are around 6 years old and still I can get them to look just about new if I polish them up. Great boots and great wear life. Just have to make sure to get the Made in America ones :)

I ended up using a 30% off Amazon deal for a pair of Magnum safety toe boots with side-zip.

As for the side-zip: Trust me, when you spend 25 years of your life doing and teaching MA then spend some time in the hospital unable to breathe, your tendons don't get enough oxygen and heal funny. I have trouble walking these days much less kicking, but I have slowly gotten better over the past couple years. Now I only have to use my cane after 5pm or so. Bending over and untying my boots is a huge pain, and I need the boots for ankle support from other injuries.

As for boots. Magnum/Hi-Tech/Swat boots I have worn for years as they are comfortable, hold up well and actually maintain foot shape, I have worn Danners and like them, but they are a bit expensive for me right now. But they are still great.

I have a pair of Redwings. I bought them from the Redwing store and they never quite felt right. I still have them, but they just don't work for me. To be fair, it may be the style that doesn't work for me, but I gave up on them after that.

I've used HiTec Magnum boots before. They are inexpensive, comfortable, and seem to hold up well for what they cost. Mine were not side zip though, I had the 4 mile laces. :) what I did really like about them was that no matter the dirty scuffs, they always cleaned up nice with some Kiwi polish and a good brushing. Seeing as how the colder weather is approaching, and working outside these days, I might try a pair. The Kinetic GTX boots are very good and what I've been using for the last couple years.
