I'm looking for input on which is a better edc the kershaw scallion or leek. I currently carry a chive, actually lost it last night); but I'm looking to upgrade anyways. Most use for box opening, mail, bags of produce at work (work In a resteraunt) I've looked at spydercos and even though I love them I'm just not sure I should spent $50+ on a knife for what i will be using it for. But if you can convince me otherwise I may just have to(:

Thanks

Spyderco Cat, or a Ladybug Hawkbill Salt. The Leek & Chive I find to be too thin for constant use.

I use/carry a Benchmade Griptilian daily. Knives are made to be used. You are paying for quality construction and materials.
Benchmade's 154cm sharpens easily and holds an edge very well for EDC cutting tasks, like: Zip-Ties, Cardboard, Paper Mail, Rope/Cord, Rubber, and Plastic.
I also like the Spyderco Endura and Delica for an EDC knife. Both are lightweight and are built well.

If you want another throw away knife and the Chive worked for you, just go run to Academy and grab another. Kershaw's 8cr13mov blades are very well made for their price point, but for Leek money, I'd be buying something else.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Spyderco offerings' prices. I would say that generally speaking, they are both awesome choices for what you want.
Honestly I would rather have a Spyderco instead of Scallion or Leek for most kitchen tasks, but really only because I don't like bead-blasted blades anywhere there is even a hint of water. You might not have a problem with it, and if you don't then it's honestly up to you with whatever you think fits your preference, but I still wouldn't let the price worry you too much.

Most of the offerings from Spyderco in that price range are going to be in VG10, which is very good at taking a screaming sharp edge for not much effort or money, but I don't know how much that matters to you either.
I would recommend an Endura or Delica if you do look at Spyderco in that price range, as those are just good, sturdy classics, and offer you good choices in more than one size.

The Scallion is a nice knife though, and people rave about the Leek. They're just not my taste because I don't like an assisted knife anymore.

I like the spyderco delica a lot, unfortunately I don't think it'll fit in my pockets, and I don't carry my purse around all day at the restraunt, I need it on my person. And every time I go to buy the dragonfly I just can't help but think for the same price I could have the delica): even though I know it wouldn't fit. So I'm torn, I enjoyed my chive just wasn't a super secure grip. I have a spyderco ambitious and I like it except it's a bit chunky in the pocket as well. Tough being a knife lover with awful pockets lol.

I will leave the which knife question to the other guys. What I do want to say is that, I recently bought a spyderco PM2. I love my knife, and especially the locking mechanism, but there is one irritating problem. The finger choil (most spydercos have it) can get in the way if I don't want to choke up on it, but want to use the base of the blade, like for cutting cardboard or apples.

Way back when, I worked as a shipper/receiver for a furniture & appliance store. Seemed like I was always opening boxes. I just used a company issued box-cutter with disposable blades. I didn't spend much time sitting down on the job, so back pocket carry was very comfortable and convenient.

But if you want something you can clip to your shallow front pockets, a little Spyderco could be just the thing. The Dragonfly is an excellent 'little big knife.' I think that a Cricket would be a demon box-cutter too, but the S-shaped blade might be a little more tricky to sharpen.

Good luck, OP! :)

That really sucks. I have worked in restraunts before, but never had pockets so small they wouldn't accomidate a Delica. Must be some very very small pockets for it to be that bad.

The only real solution to that I suppose is that you could try clipping it to the edge of your shirt around the neck or something. Had a friend who did that because he didn't have the room in his pockets for his knife, and it made it easier to get to. He had to increase the tension on the clip for it to really work well, but when he clipped it so that the knife was on the inside of his shirt it was pretty secure for him.
At the very least he never had trouble loosing it, but I don't know how visible your knife is allowed to be. Only alternative I can think of is maybe using the top edge of your apron if you wear one, or the waistband if you wear a half-apron.

Girl pants would be the issue haha. Most all girls pants, at least most of mine are very small and shallow. I think I'll end up going with a dragonfly, I just want it to have some color other than black. Maybe orange since I can't find the salt version in anything other then serrated

Fair enough. My girlfriend seems to have the same problem with almost all of her pants.

I don't get the ide of putting pockets on pants if they aren't going to be useful for anything...

Hope the Dragonfly fits and works for you!

Would you consider a Kershaw Nura 3.0? Bigger then what you want, but still a nice thin blade.

Think in going with a purple delica regardless of its size I'm just in the love with it and my boyfriend has the almost same size knife a buck spitfire so I know it'll definitely be lighter than his and I can fit it in my back pocket too so..(: thanks for all the help

If $s are a consideration, the Byrd Meadowlark is a really great knife. And you get both a choil and G-10 scales not found on the Delica.

Exactly the problem I have with many knives. I currently carry a Rat II and a Hold Out III and depending on what I'm wearing, I find myself having to clip them at odd angles to get them to fit in my various shallow pockets. I've carried a Mini Grip with little trouble in most of my pockets, but the handle on a Delica is a bit longer than on a Mini Grip and that, combined with the slippery integral clip (older version of the Delica) meant that I almost lost my Delica a number of times. It actually fell out of my pocket a couple of times and I didn't notice at the time.

I generally cannot carry folding knives in my pockets the same way the guys here can much of the time. And forget about a fixed blade in the pocket, which is why my favorite fixed for a while now has been my CRKT Minimalist, which I can wear as a neck knife and barely notice it's there.

Ontario Rat II. $25, and comes in different colors. If you lose it, who cares? If something happens to it, who cares? They're durable though, no doubt.

The Spyderco Persistence is another good one at $35 or so.

Great choice, it might be more compact and carryable than you are expecting. Unlikely that you'll regret the purchase.
