Hello

This is the first time being in the fourm and I guess I had a couple of questions about the quality of different brands of knife sets that can be used for general kitchen cooking.

Essentially I'm looking to spend around max of 70 on a new set of kitchen knifes. I'm clueless regarding the quality of various knifes and I found this fourm to contain a lot of expertise.

I've been keeping my eye on the KitchenAid knife sets. They are around 50 to 70 and seem to be of a good quality. They claim their sets are forged steel and are of type 420. One particular set they sell you can see an entire full tank and 3 rivits holding the tank in the handle.

However that particular set is being phased out and you don't see it quite often. The set replacing it is:

I don't see if a full tang exist or not.

I was also interested in the Henckel line of knifes they seem to be one of the best names. However they sell a cheaper quality of knives called Hencles ever edge and Henckels Synergy. They seem to run about 40 to 50 dollars. In terms of quality is the kitchenaids I'm looking at better or around the same as these Henckels Synergy.

Thank You

Me...I'd spend 70 on the chef's knife that feels most comfortable in your hand.

Putting all your cash toward that will get you a quality knife that will do everything and last forever if treated well.

Then, get a cheap serrated knife for slicing bread, tomatoes, meat, etc... and you are pretty much set.
