Well, I finally went and split my hawk handle this morning. I was out in the yard chopping up some seasoned pine and decide to put the hawk through its pace. It actually took less than 2 steps. On my second swing I heard a distinct "crack" as I made contact with with a knot. After examining the head/handle joint it looks as though I had some front/back play. The head was not very snug onto the haft. I can't even fix this one because the split is near the top of the handle. If I cut it my head will slide right off. Now I need a replacement. I'm thinking of going synthetic at this point but until Vec's slip handles are ready I'll have to get an ash handle. :grumpy:

Just about everyone that sells the CS line offers replacement handles.
I know that Knifecenter.com does. They usually are only about $6.
I would go with Hickory over ash.
If you can find a composite handle that will fit the CS line, let the rest of us know:D

It may not be the place with the best stuff but I think BUD K might sell these inexpensively, it is easier to buy thatn to sand dwon ash or hickory to fit it you want to ust it till Bro VEC get the slippy handles in the works. Pat

i would probably wait on Vec's handle myself as it looks just about perfect but i think ragnar at ragweed forge has some wood replacement handles of better quality than the cs ones.

sorry to hear that, brother ken C.

i usually start inventing some new words when that happens - or actually inventing new handles, i reckon.

the good news is, the composite slippies are developing nicely - tonite me and my mates are gonna go at them again, in fact.

this black one (pictured below) has held up really well so far.

we want to make them a little better (like, crazy good) before we start offering them for purchase.
