I have a customer that I'm making a knife to comorate his lady friend's african safari. He wants her name and the safari's date etched on the blade.

Anybody out there set up to make there on stencils?

I'd gladly pay for one for this knife.

Thanks,

I'd be glad to do it for you, but my last roll of temporary stencil material got ruined when I forgot to put it back in the refrigerator and the wax melted off the entire roll in the summer heat.
Never got anymore as I rarely do them and marking methods had a $25.00 minimum.

you can make one by coating the blade in melted beeswax, and cutting the design in with a brass or bronze blade so you don't scratch the knife. the beeswax resists ferric chloride, muriactic acid and saltwater(with a 6v dc power source) very well. just make sure you cut straight in, and don't accidentally lift up part of the wax.

You've been helpful to others in the past. Send me a file (word? Photoshop?) of what you want and I'll send it to you.

Rob!

Thanks Rob, your a life saver. I'll have to talk with the customere and see exactly what he wants. Also have to let him inspect and handle the knife, it's for his girlfriend and he left design and material totaly up to me. All he wanted was stainless and "hard to sharpen" What better than S30V?:D

I should be seeing him tomorrow maybe, I'll drop you a line. I would love to get set-up to make my own stencils, but this is the first time I'd had a customere ask for it to be personalized.
