There are a lot of Buck collectors on this forum more knowledgeable me….
Question:
what $range is considered a “good buy” on a excellent condition 639 fieldmate with an excellent condition camo sheath? Opinions welcome!

Prices on ebay past sales are all over the place from $85 to $200.

Once in a while you can find a bargain..I picked one up for less than $35.00 shipped last year on a BIN on the bay. That was gifted/traded for a 110 of all things lolol! I sent it off with a nice block of Ironwood. It was the first fixed blade Buck I had bought for a good while.

that 250 seems silly to me unless it was a special one. as in a first run or whatever.

I grabbed mine in the 100 range. its in pretty good condition. id lean towards the 85 to low mid 100s range as your price point to hunt for...good luck on the hunt.

thanks all, since I never held one, its it worth adding to collection if you can get one around $125? or under

to bad…I would have given you $70 bucks….100 percent profit gain, ha.

I gave my Brother David my 110 Award knive from the Blade Show in Atlanta last year (since he collects 110's and didn't win one) and a fellow BCCI member who had won a extra gave one to me so I could display with my other Award knives I have won over the years. So it was a pretty special 110..

If you can find one in that price range that's in decent condition... yes, in a heart beat.

Sept. 2021 on ebay, I paid $126 for mine.

The 639 is about the same proportion as the 119.

And then of course, there is the 619 Woodsmate that will need to go along with it 😁

Personally, I paid around $180 for mine shipped. Folks will say that I overpaid, and perhaps I did, but it's a relatively rare knife, so as they become increasingly scarce, the price will go up. At the time I bought mine, there were only 3 of them listed on eBay total, one of which was just the blade blank with no handle in which the bidding had carried it to $150+, another was being sold as a "bundle" with a buch of tac gear for $250+, then there was mine that was being sold for $185 or Best Offer.

Granted, it was the Holiday Season, but I think that prices are turning a corner as the knife becomes increasingly rare. If you can find one cheap, then obviously jump on it, but you might have to wait awhile.

I had mine on my desk for almost a month and many times I would just pick it up and admire it. With the saw back it had the 'Rambo' look without some of the drawbacks of the 184 especially the handle. But I would love one as long as a 651.

I may have an opportunity to get a mint one with sheath for $140. what say you people? are they that collectable? is money better spent on other vintage bucks?

Do you like it. Do you want one. You have to decide if it is worth that much to you. For me, no. It's not worth $140. It's not a knife I have a use for, and I don't really like the look of the green rubber handle. I prefer a nice wood handle, or elk or stag. I have other knives I don't really have a use for, but at least with them I like how they look.

So if you like it and can afford it. Buy it. But don't buy what you don't like.

O.B.

Sometimes you pick up a Buck just so you can check it out yourself. If you buy ANY knife right and are carful using it its not a big deal if you decide it's not for you. I knew a guy years ago who did that with guns. He always hunted with something cool and usually high end. He decided on what he would like to shoot that year and sought one out after the season ended. He shopped well and when he sold the new one he sometimes made a little and sometimes lost a little. He enjoyed both the shopping and the shooting. Over the years he got to use and enjoy a lot of high end rifles. He shot a lot of Magnums because he found especially good bargains on the high kickers..

Ha, sounds like me…I was that guy..Must have owned 200 rifles throughout my life, every caliber madie.

Also, I'd just like to add this little bit of wisdom...

Don't EVER assume that prices will drop or remain the same and put off getting something that you really want because you think or especially because others tell you that you'll definitely get a better deal later on.

Years ago, I really wanted a Walther PPK/S, but had noticed that they were getting harder to find and that prices were steadily increasing across the board. So I asked folks if I should get one immediately or wait. Of course, all the folks who already had one of their own told me to wait because sooner or later prices would go back down and I could get one far cheaper. Eventually, I got tired of waiting and bought one for a price that I was comfortable spending. Everyone told me that I had wasted my money because they were totally going to plummet in price. Guess what, they never plummeted in price, in fact now they cost a good $250 more than the "terrible" price I paid back in 2016.

It's easy for folks who already own something to tell those who don't to wait for something that they want, then ridicule them for paying more than they would for something they already bought when prices were lower, but they don't end up having to pay more when prices go up.

So yeah, if $140 seems fair to you, then buy it. Don't bank on prices going down on something that's rare, out of production, and prices have evidently already gone up on.

Time IS money to a lot of people. I have the time to search Ebay for example for weeks or even months to find a knive I want to have. My son works 60 hours a week and simply doesn't have the time to find THE bargin. I'm willing to wait until the deal comes along and am flexible since I collect rare and odd and they always show up. I've waited over 10 years for a BG42 112. It has to be a very special 112 for me to say "I'll take it" regardless of whether it is a bargain or not. We all have a budget we have to spend except for a very fortunate few and even those folks are picky and don't buy everything. Well maybe a couple do...
