Newbee needs advice / opinions on Buck knives, specifically a Vantage Pro. Anybody know if they have fixed some of the QC issues I've read about here (blade centering and scraping, to be exact). Any comments would be helpful, as well as where to buy. Any other favorites besides the Vantage? Thanks, my fellow "Knife Nuts!"

I bought a Vantage Pro (large) a couple of weeks ago and liked it so much that I immediately ordered two more as backups/extras. Out of those three, one came with a blade that was significantly off-center (but still not touching/scraping the liner). However, a pivot adjustment that took all of five seconds was all that was needed to fix the centering issue. All three knives had September 2010 dates marked on the boxes, so I assume they were fresh off the line.

Regarding where to buy, prices are pretty similar at most of the major online knife retailers ($45-50 for a small, $50-55 for a large), so just go with a place that has good customer service or good prices on any other knives you might be including in your order.

The newer ones are centered pretty well. I don't mind knives off center as long as they don't scrap.
Anyways other bucks to look at, paradigm. Im getting used to it I really like the blue/black g10 handles

As long as the blade doesn't scrape the liner, I have no problems with a blade that is not perfectly center, but which locks up securely. My Vantage Pro meets that description. It's been my standard carry since I got it in June. I am much impressed by it. The S30V is excellent and the design makes for a knife that works just fine. However, IMO, if you want "eye-candy" you will need to buy a more expensive knife.

I purchased one earlier this year (Buck Vantage Pro/S30V). It was manufactured in March 2010. Blade is slightly off center but not touching the liner, so no big deal.
Overall, a Very nice knife.

Got a Vantage Pro (small) not long ago, the model in the display case had a blade that was off centre and very late lock-up (the lock was in contact with the opposing liner). I asked to see another knife and it was perfect, blade dead centre, early and secure lock-up. I have been very pleased with the knife. IMHO best bargain going these days!

Vantage Pro is a great knife. New one's don't seem to have a issue with the blade being offcenter. Get it...I really like mine
