I'm not really sure just what all is available at the store I found. But, I can tell you for sure that the fellow selling this stuff doesn't know what he has. A large variety of odds and ends like cylinders, pumps, controllers, switching valves motors etc...

I'm not sure of the specs on most of this stuff because my knowledge is limited. I'm going to start building my own press in the near future and wanted to share this source for parts. I ordered the book and plans "How to build your own hydraulic forging press" from Don Foggs site. Jim Batson is the author and it sounds like the book will teach you not only how to build your own press, but is a primer on hydraulic theory and application.

There is also a wide variety of all kinds of different things that I've never seen before that are available in this store. Knife steel at below wholesale prices, all kinds of steel in all kinds of shapes and sizes. I bought a 2" X 12" scotch brite wheel with the large center arbor hole for $20.00!! All the stuff in the store is in new, unused condition. Sometimes still in original packaging. Lots of government surplus for cheap.

Anyway, if any of you folks need any wierd stuff that's hard to find or especially hydraulic parts, just email me and I'll see if it's available.

Roberts hydralics in Chicago has great deals on pumps and tanks already assembled
Heres the number. They have all kinds of the stuff you need.

Find a surplus house for a cylinder Max.

An old punch press is a great frame.

Then just get a used big die set and build the tooling for forging. THis will keep the tooling in line very well.

The old punch press's with broken cranks are sold for scrap weight.

Just weld the cylinder to the screw and to the frame and shazam its ready to go without building a bunch of frames and such..

50 tonners around here are about 200 bucks.
Just got to ship them and unload um..

A fellow with a semi wrecker can load and unload them for a good price.

Hey Darrell, while I was looking around in that store, I found several cylinders, but the specs threw me. One cylinder I was looking at was rated at 2000 PSI and 175 bar. WTF is 'bar'? It didn't say how many tons. It was spring loaded to return to the inlet position. About 6" tall X 4" across with a push rod about 1 1/4" diameter. Too small? Price was $35.00 I think. Just feeling around. DOH, I think I don't know what I'm doing here.

There was another one that was about 12" tall X 8" across with a 2" push rod. No specs on it that I could see. It weighed about 100 lbs, so was hard to move around. Price was $50.00 if I remember right. Are these good prices???
