Does anyone have a stag handled KOA cleaver? I would like to get a closer picture of the handle. I saw one for sale but the handle seemed funny to me. I could see the marrow? at the end instead of it being solid. Is this normal for stag handles? Thanks.
Looking at the butt of the handle, I can see part of the inner bone (or antler). I haven't worked with it myself so I can't comment on the commonality of it.
Is that Elk? I have a big chunk of Elk antler and it would be hard to have scales very thick without having some center. In scandi knives they often use it as a boklster so all you can see is the outside of the antler and the handle goes through the middle.
It is supposed to be Sambar stag. Is it normal to see the inner part of the antler? Have people switched handle materials on these knives? I think it's authentic but just want to make sure.
I would say it is probably normal. I imagine some are more pronounced then others since antler is so variable.
I heard the stag handled knives were getting harder to find.
