We have a third floor and often set a fan up in one end of the house to get the air moving. The previous fane diead a few days ago and we need to replace it.

I'm looking for a pedestal fan that pretty powerful but not overwhelmingly so.

- drug store fans suck, they wobble, they're noisy a don't move much air. Also it's been my experience that they overheat with prolonged running.

- I have a couple of vornado fans and they nice, but I was hoping for something a little more powerful.

- Patton brand sucks every single one I'bve bought or someelse has bought has failed to various reasons almost immdediately

- Price range 100 ish

- Sealed ball bearing motor is good.

Here's what I've narrowed the field down to:

relatively light, decent airflow, but alittle pricey:

Like the twin fan concept but looks big:

The previous fan was similar to one, reasonable flow:

This one too:

Comments? ideas?

Matt if it was only up to me that's what I'd get.

Yeah Vornadoes are pretty decent, I have a large one, just wanted some more power.

More power than a large Vornado?

I guess you could always get one of these :)

Go to a Graingers or similar place in your area and look at the Dayton auto shop fans. Those babies are built like a tank with their great fan motors, have a very good cage to keep fingers safe (which is required on these powerful babies), and they can really move the air with quietness. They will probably push your budget a little in the smaller sizes but, with their lifespan and desirable use features, I think the expense is justified.

I've replace so many poor quality fans that I could have paid for one of the better units and enjoyed the benefits of the quality and superior design. Maybe next time.......

I don't know what your situation is Dave, but how about a "whole house" fan to pull the air up into the attic?

Jack

Whole house fan is on our list to do. It just hasn't made it to the top yet.

I have a Holmes Blizzard table-top fan in my office here at work and I can't stand to use anything other than the lowest setting. Medium and High simply are too strong and blow papers off my desk and off the wall.

They also have a Blizzard stand model you can view here. I think I've seen one of these for around $35.

I have been looking for one and found the best prices at Target or Wal Mart with my local Lowes a close second.
ps I run my fans about 12 hours a day and they seem to be holding up OK.
