Hey I need a recent issue of Time. It's from the last few weeks and has a major article on Andrew Weil. If you have this old guy lying around please send it to me. I will pay $5 for it. Thanks!

gfhoward,

I have the European time but the article should be the same. It would cost too much to post. Would you like me to scan in that article as a PDF for you?

They had Weil on the Diane Rehm show yesterday. I should note that the fellow's ideas are not exactly popular among the established medical science community, nor with skeptics.
He is fond of a variety of thoroughly unproven techniques taken from "alternative" medicine.

Yes please Nordic Viking, that would be very useful.

mwerner, I am aware that he is a proponent of alternative medicine. He isn't a quack though, most of his advice is along simple herbal and dietary recommendations: advice that is pretty much common knowledge these days. If you read the article you'll see what I mean. He pretty much says eat vegetables, exercise, and take a multi-vitamin.

I'll also add that although he's a hippie at heart (I've met him before as I used to go to conferences), he is a brilliant medical doctor and graduated at the top of his class from Harvard Medical School. In fact he and his buddies were so bored with the pace of the Med school classes at Harvard that they obtained permission to study independently (the grade was based on the final exam) and all of them in that group did better on the final exams than their classmates. He's someone with a great mind and a solid medical education who is smart enough to do his own research rather than just accept the party line.

Health in this country is in bad shape. So many people are severely overweight, cholesterol is off the charts, we have the highest cancer rate of any country in the world, and our medical system is expensive and full of confusing paperwork. I think we need more doctors like him encouraging people to take responsibilty for protecting their health.
