Hi Guys,

I want to start getting into leather working sheaths etc. as a hobby now that I'm retired..

I'm seeking simple straight forward How to book/s that will get me started with needed tools, tecniques, leather needs, purchase and terminologies ie "shaving to size?"

So I figured this would be the place to ask, since some beautiful work and tutorials have been presented here.

Peace and good Karma

Either on line or in person, visit Tandy/Leather Factory and take a look at the various books by Al Stohlman. These books or booklets are old and have been in print forever, but they are about as good today as the day they were first introduced. They cover ALL the ground you mentioned in your post.

By the By..I was in Kerrville 2 weeks ago visiting a friend. Love that hill country! We went down to Llano (pontotac) for a few days of hog hunting.

The two needed for making very good basic sheaths are:

The art of hand stitching leather

Making Leather cases Vol 1

Both by Al Stolman.

Thanks gentlemen! I will look those books up in Tucson this week. I do appreciate the advice I could get a bit overwhelmed with all the book choices etc. to wade through

Rayban , Sorry about not mentioning Comfort. I believe it was after Fredricksburg where we stopped at the brewery since I wasnt driving I took full advantage of thier red ale.:D

All of the above are excellent recommendations. I would like to add that Chuck Burrows DVD on making knife sheaths is an excellent tutorial. It can be found on his website Wild Rose Trading Company.

I highly suggest that you visit the forums at the Leatherworker.net website. There's lot's of people who will answer your questions, and their search function actually works.
