Need Ritter M2 replacement--suggestions?

So the short version is that the tow truck guy stole my M2 Ritter Grip out of my car when it was being towed to the shop. I hope the jerk cuts himself with the ridiculously sharp blade.

So I need a new knife (assuming I can sneak it past the wife), and I want something that is reasonable to carry (i.e. not huge, somewhere in the 3-3.5" blade range), solid enough to be reliable in hiking/backpacking situations, and nice enough to keep and use for a long, long time.

Not psyched to replace it with another Grip--loved the M2 Ritter blade, was ambivalent about the Grip (comfort/control issues). I think I really like the Sebenza, but not sure I can jump up that far $$$-wise. But once I do, then I feel I ought to consider others in that range too, i.e. a Strider PT.

Anyone compare the Strider PT and the Sebbie (small)? Thoughts about fit, finish, strength of the two? Other suggestions? I think I'd like to go framelock, but I'm open to Axis-lock again.

Cheers, and thanks for the help,
Daniel

If I were trying to replace my M2 Ritter (which I hope I never have to do), I'd probably look first to the ZDP-189 Delica or Endura. Both are nice, mid-level, FRN knives with nested liners and high-end blade steel.

I should have mentioned that I already have a Delica (SS), which I like, but I want something with a framelock, or at least Axis-lock. Otherwise, the Spydies are nice.

Don't leave your M2 anywhere handy--I guess it's too much temptation.

How about a BM 940,710 or an Ares model. Also Blade-Tech Pro Hunter. GOOD LUCK! Kevin:thumbup: Here may be your best choice ZT0302 You would never wear this one out or for another framelock Combat Elite RRF it is VERY nice too.

i had a m2 mini ritter-you might take a look at the kershaw zdp mini cyclone-

also the much maligned bradley alias(i have a alias2)-they use ti frame bronze washers s30v blade steel and dont screw into the ti -they use male and femalefasteners like a sebenza -
a very under rated knife for the money-

my strider pt is a nice solid knife, the heat treat holds a excellent edge-

What about a non-M2 Rittergrip? Yeah, I know its not M2, but it is still a GREAT knife!

... and a portion of the price goes to supporting a great not-for-profit organization (equipped.org)

Have you thought about getting a Bradley Alias? They are want to be Sebenzas and are like 1/2 the price.

The spyderco bg42 military is a great knife too,its light, easy to carry,& is so sharp from the factory, its scary.its the best military ever made......

XM-18...Just got one here in Iraq and it is a great solid knife. CV20 Steel 3.5" blade and the G-10 scales on one side that have the best grip that I have ever used when it comes to G-10. It is in that $300-400 range but I wont be looking back.

First off, I'm sure the guy who took your Grip took it on a whim, he probably didn't know what it was, and it might be in a pawn shop right now for 50 bucks.

As for a replacement, if you didn't like the Grip design, the PT and the small Seb are two different knives. Both are framelocks, both have S30V steel, both are top flight production knives. You won't be disappointed in either. The Seb is moreso a gentlemans knife that can handle super hard tasks, and the PT is more for hard tasks that can handle double duty as a gents knife. If you have the money, buy either the PT or the Seb, depending on what you need it for.

small manix would be my suggestion. similar price range, great slicer, heavt duty.

Thanks--some really good suggestions here that have had me looking all over the internets :)

The Grip blade and Axis lock were fantastic, but the handle wasn't my favorite. Hence other Grippy versions are out of the running.

I do like Spydercos, but have a Delica, and am pretty sure I want a good framelock this time around.

The Bradley Alias 2 looks sweet, but I can't find too much information around about the quality. If anyone knows/has some feedback on how they stack up, I'd love to know. Definitely cheaper than the Strider PT and Sebbie, but not *that* much of a difference if I buy them used. Might be worth it to jump to the used Sebbie or PT, rather than a new Bradley...

XM-18 looks fantastic, but it really pushing out of the range I can potentially spend. Kicking a little over $200 is okay, but I don't think I can get to $3+. Enjoy that knife, though, seems really sweet.

So yeah, I guess I'm headed in the 3" blade framelock direction, and the Sebbie and PT are calling. Leaning strongly toward the PT for blade geometry reasons (not a big fan of hollow ground blades, and will probably end up convexing the edge). The Mini-Dejavoo also looks excellent, if slightly larger than I wanted to go. How do you think the lock strength is on it? Could it be used hard in a wilderness-type situation should something come up?

If there's anyone near Everett, MA, keep an eye on the pawn shops. There might be a $50 M2 Ritter in excellent condition for you there.

Cheers,
Daniel

The Bradley's are made by Benchmade for Bradley. I've handed a few and they're well made but I haven't put one to work.
