Not an upgrade guy per se but I hate plastic scales i.e. my benchmade barrage. I got micarta scales but the scales didn't have inserts to attached pocket clip. My fault didn't check the maker.
Where do you purchase T6 threaded inserts? Or can you thread micarta? This is my first attempt at switching out scales.

The barrage has full steel liners doesn't it? Don't the pocket clip screws attach to threaded holes in the liners, perhaps you just need longer screws.

The barrage liner does not have holes.... the old scales were threaded to hold the clip

Good old Benchmade, always cutting corners. Can you pop the old inserts out of the frn scales? I did that once, you start the screw into the back of the scale and pull it will pull the insert out. I'm sorry if I'm not that helpful , I was trying to help because I have never seen those type of inserts for sale at least not small enough to be of help.

Thanks I will try that.

I don't know if these will work for you, but I found them at McMaster's awhile back and decided to add them to my assortment of hardware.

They are stainless steel threaded inserts for 2-56 screws (typically T6 torx size). The inserts measure 1/8th" tall, and have a 1/8th" outer diameter. They are a press-fit type of insert with a flange to prevent them from being pulled through the hole when tightening the screws.

They cost $5.18 for a pack of 25, item number MSO4-256-4. If you do a search for that number at McMaster you will find them.

If a person were going to use these I would recommend buying a drill bit just under 1/8th" to drill the holes for a tight fit. McMaster also sells such drill bits.

I want to double-check if a 1/8th" bit will work for these inserts. I'm heading out to my shop now and will report back in a few minutes :) .

Ok, to confirm, a 1/8th" bit produces a hole too large for a secure fit (doesn't hold the insert at all). I did a test on some scrap G10 and used a #32 bit to drill all the way through, and a 1/8th" bit to open up the end of the hole to make it easier to set the insert in the hole. With a few light hammer taps the insert went in tight and works great. A very tight fit.

If a person wanted the head of the flange to be flush with the material all they have to do is drill the end of the hole at a diameter that matches the flange (or larger).

McMaster sells #32 drill bits (gauge sizes).

No problem, happy to do it. I was also curious myself. I've had these inserts awhile and forgot what the proper drill bit size was for them, so this gave me reason to refresh my memory.

I love how extremely helpful people are on here! Absolutely amazing! I knew somebody makes them the knife manufacturers had to get them somewhere, but I always had to steal them out of the frn of g10 scales I already had.
