Hello all. I've recently gotten back into knives and have purchased a few customs with convex edges. I've read some nice tutorials on the techniques for sharpening and stropping. Now I'm trying to decide where to buy compounds and good stropping leather, etc. Does anyone have experience with the Bark River sharpening compounds? Also, JRE has what appears to be a fairly comprehensive kit (minus compound) for convex edges. If anyone has opinions on that as well, I'd like to hear those. I'm particularly interested in thoughts on the block as it appears to be the most expensive piece of the kit and I'm not sure how useful it would be. Any other thoughts are welcomed as well.

The JRE block is amazing for sharpening convex blades, I highly suggest it. By far the best tool for doing the job.

Thanks for the comments guys. Based on the suggestions here, I bought both the JRE EMS kit and the BRKT compounds. I ordered an extra piece of leather from JRE so I'd have one dedicated to each compound. Once you factor in the free shipping, knivesshipfree.com had the best price on the compounds, so it made it a no-brainer to buy from a fellow forum member. Thanks again.

The bark river compounds are very good. The black compound alone will easily take your edge to shaving sharp with proper technique.
