So... My Chiruwa Ang Khola sheath has finally fallen apart. Unfortunately I didn't do any treatment of the leather and it fell apart. This Khukuri means a lot to me as I got it after talking with Uncle Bill and we figured out what would be best for my needs. He shipped it to me simply on my word that I'd send a check. I'm finding it hard to believe that it has been almost... 17 years?!? It's still going strong too! Anyway, I still have all the wood parts for the sheath but the leather needs to be replaced. Is there any way I can have that done? Does HI do that sort of thing?

They do it in Nepal, very doubtful it would be cost effective to send your parts or your knife over to get resheathed.

I'd suggest contacting one of the leather workers who are members here, there are several.
They would probably prefer to make a whole new sheath and probably not a traditional style like you have but more what we're accustomed to over here.
Without the knife it's difficult to match up a sheath. I have several and Yangdu might also have some around but hard to tell if any would be a good fit.

I'd send it to a leather man and have one properly made.

17 years is a pretty good record for the old sheath, it lasted well.

I'd be happy to send the parts of the sheath to Nepal. The wood is already carved to fit the blade and in fine shape. I just need the leatherwork done. How expensive could that be? *bracing self for possible reality check*

The right person to answer your question (probably the only person) is Yangdu. Send her an email.

The leather wrapping might cost less than the round trip shipping (even for the sheath alone), but that's just my guess.

Maybe it would actually be feasible to get the work redone in Nepal. I quickly checked the USPS rates, and a 1-pound box would cost $22.25 to ship to a Nepal address. Not too bad, considering. It could come back to Auntie in one of the regular shipments to her from Nepal.

($22.25 for a 1-lb package from USA to Nepal, First Class Package International Service, no dimension of the box larger than 12", which would allow up to about 16" packed on the diagonal.)

I'm sure the Sarki would want the knife to get a good fit though.
Yangdu indeed is the only person with a real answer. I'm sure if it's feasible she'd be more than happy to help.

If you could post pictures of the sheath bits and the knife, I might be able to give you some ideas. There is a chance that you could have it fixed state side. . . There's a few Leather benders on this forum that might be able to help.
