I recently bought a new benchmade 940-1 on ebay and there seems to be a defect on the blade. I'm new to knifes, so I don't know if this is considered normal or a defect. There is a round bubble or bulge on the blade. What do you guys recommend I should do? Is this something that benchmade will fix or is it consider normal. Thanks in advance.

That is not normal. Benchmade will take care of you.

That being said, it isn't going to effect the working of the knife, so you can use it as long as you want and then at some point send it to Benchmade and have them replace it then.

If it were mine, that is what I would do.

I'm quite disappointed, because now I have to spend money to ship back a $260 knife. This shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I'm pretty sure they"ll compansate you for the shipping both ways after you send it in but maybe I'm wrong. Or why not just send it back to the seller on ebay?

...probably why the eBay seller sold it...question: was this disclosed by the eBay seller? It may be returnable to the eBay seller, as suggested above.

File a claim on eBay. You will get all your money back and shipping. Unless it was disclosed in the sale or in pictures.

I would send a picture to the seller and ask for a refund and return shipping. Bummer though. That would bother anyone.
BM will hook you up if you choose to.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

The knife was list as new, no defect.

I will likely send it in to benchmade. If I send it back to seller, it I would also involve me paying for the shipping.

If you do, as a plus, Benchmade will probably give the knife a thorough going-over. Also, my very recent experience is that their turnaround is very fast.

I would love to know what that is exactly. I don't see how it could remain after grinding...

Nope. Look into it if you really care about the shipping cost. Ebay has a money back guarantee for buyers and especially if the item isn't as described, the seller will be responsible for return shipping. Ebay will always have the buyers back (for better or worse).

All this said, if it were me I would send it to benchmade, even if it cost me an extra $10.

Well, I hate to say it, but should buy from reputable dealer of forum member with good standing. Getting anything in e-bay has inherent risks and everyone should be aware. I would recommend getting Benchmade from reputable knife specialist on internet like KW, etc.

Benchmade customer support is one of the best, not to worry. As others has suggested, return to the seller in trash-bay and claim misrepresented item sold by user, send to BKC for refresh, or live with the blade (most unlikely, but an option ;) ).
