I'm not going to name the trader, but they had told me the SnG I had acquired was originally theirs and offered an SMF in trade, supposedly with very minimal use, no play, and pivot adjusted but never taken apart, as well as having the factory edge. This is also supposed to be new lock-up.

So the knife arrives today, and some things seem.. off. I've only owned one Strider, so I may not be aware of their knives in total, but it doesn't seem to be the quality in which I was informed. There's a definite curve in the tang, which points to it being the older lock up. There's no real play, however if I push on the spine with a good amount of force the lockbar WILL move. The lock hasn't failed yet but it makes me worry for the future. Also, the tiger-striped blade was worn a good bit on the right side, the blade is off-center towards the lock side, the edge seems to overstep where it would normally, which to me seems like it's been resharpened. Also, it looks as if a small area o n the G10 melted, and the pocket clip looks melted towards the tip, but it feels flush so I'm not sure what that's about. Finally, I can't see the washers, as there's a blue-white liquid(lube?) coating the sides of the blade, which points to it having been taken apart.

On another note, he said he made me a pivot tool as he couldn't find one to send with it, but it was also not in the package.

Do I have the right to be upset, or am I over-thinking it?

If I am making a trade, I expect everything to be as stated. But then I take a man at his word. If it is not as described in a way that leaves you disappointed in the trade- whether by deliberate deceit, or by omission- then you have every right to declare shenannigans. Part of the knife looking melted would definately be something I would take issue with. Myself, I pull Charlie Bronson and say "No dice."

My main concern is I planned on keeping it if it has the new lock-up, and now that I know it doesn't on top of the other (albeit pretty minor) flaws, I don't think I can get as much trade as I could've with the SnG either. I wanted the guy to get his knife back, but I didn't want to come out on the low end either.

that would piss me off man. if the knife is not as described and is that far off then i feel you have a right to be upset.

Looking back at it, there's nothing really wrong with it. It was mostly me. I'm one of those people who gets anal about knives. ;) Someone please close this thread. working it out with the owner.
