I'm planning to purchase an axe with an OAL of 28" and head weight between 2.0 lbs. to 2.5 lbs. This length and weight seems perfect for my needs. Through a lot of research, i have narrowed my choices down to four potential axes.

1.) H&B Forge Felling Axe - Made in America
2.) Hults Bruks Kalix - Made in Sweden
3.) Helko Pioneer - Made in Germany
4.) Council Tool Velvicut Bad Axe Boy's Axe - Made in America

Anyone have any opinion's on these axes and how would you rank them as far as quality. I'm leaning towards either the H&B or Hults Bruks, but the Helko and Council are still in the running. Thanks.

I got it. We have a good group here in the axe forum.

Best way to do this this is by Report Post. Next time, click on the triangle icon in the lower left corner and tell us what you need.

That one.

Thanks for moving the post to correct section. I'm new to this forum and wasn't sure where to post.

Update - I have removed H&B Forge as a potential candidate. After consulting the manufacturer, the head weight is only 1.5 lbs., which lighter than I'm looking for in an axe. Also, the company just recently as of this year started selling felling axes, so its techniques and head design might not be up to par with the others mentioned.

The HB forge looks interesting but the bevels in the one picture I could find on their site makes me wonder about the profile. Edit: Found more pictures on Facebook, my vote goes to \/ 100%

The Council Tools boys axe is what I would choose.

You certainly can't go wrong with the Velvicut. If price is a factor, the Helko or Hults seem to be $40-$50 less than your other options. I have two from Helko (the Pathfinder and Yankee), and am perfectly satisfied with both. The H&B is in a little different category than a classic boys axe. I have the H&B felling axe on order and will try to post some pictures and initial observations on the forum when it arrives.

Doesn't say on your 'location handle' where you live. If you're a newbie to axes you can buy into, and get accustomed to and learn to use, whatever you want but if (for instance) you grew up with n. American-style axes you'll likely find that's what you want to stay with.
There are lots of 'previously enjoyed' top drawer 'boys axe' sized implements to be found at garage sales and flea markets, by the way, and they will be considerably less expensive.
