I'm looking for a good light use pocket knife with a blade length of under 3in. under $100 that still looks nice. I would also like to try somthing other than a liner lock, thats all I have ever had except my Buck Revelution XT.

Benchmade Mini-Pika, very inexpensive, lockback, great steel, beautifully finished 2.9" blade with a good all-purpose shape.

How about something traditional, like a slipjoint from Queen or elsewhere?

AG Russell has some small lockbacks that would meet your criteria.

Happy shopping,
Bob

SOG Twitch or Blink? you may end up having alot of fun with one of those, since they're assisted openers.

I have the perfect solution. A Fallkniven U2
Great little gents knives that actually keep an edge for quite a while.

You might also want to see what I have done to my own U2 and several others for forum members that wanted it.

It all started with my own knife because I hate pocket lint and I'm a nail biter. One of the ones pictured here is mine. Some U2 loyalists have wanted this from the factory for years but Peter, the owner of Fallkniven has made it clear that he has no desire to do them. He did however wish me well with the endeavor and said publically that he thought these mods were great.

It sure works and corrects the shortfalls of this little jewel IMO. Of course it is a great knife to begin with. Just a little more updated and one handed this way. Being as small as it is it is legal everywhere too so if that is an issue it is a great way to go.

Here is a before pic

And after a thumb stud and custom fitting the clip from a discarded Gerber/Fiskars LST cheapy knife.

Where would I find one of these and how does a slipjoint work?

It works like a Swiss Army Knife, the blade is held open by spring tension - it does not lock open.

Yeah, a slipjoint merely means a folding knife with no lock mechanism. Like a traditional pocketknife.

Oh great, way to make me want a 112 even more... i was just playing around with my 110 and thinking i should get a 112.

I think I'll get the Queen utility that I showed in the link. I really would like a Buck 55 or 112 especially a Limited edition 55 with the ironwood.

My choice for a nice sub 3" knife just a week or so ago was the benchmade 705-401.

I got mine for $87 plus shipping/handling/tax (I live in california) on ebay where duane seems to be selling them once a week or so, in either of the stores that's selling them (edcknives.com or americanheritagesports.com), they're $110.

You could also look at the BM 707.

I like the knife quite a bit, and love the axis locking system (one of the big reasons most of my knives have been benchmades).
