FIRST OFF LET ME SAY HELLO TO EVERY BODY HERE AS I AM A NEWBIE HERE.anyways i need some help on picking a steel for a knife i am going to make it will be a MACHETE that is simaler to a DHA. it will be 24inches overall with a 1-3/4 inch wide blade will be 18inches long with a 6inch handle that will be done with a japanese style rap in para cord .it will also be between 1/8-5/32 of a inch thick that will be hardened to a 57-59 rockwell with a salt bath. what i want to know is what type of steel should i make it out of for heavy cutting and camp work that can stand up to cold weather up here in canada .i was thinking 1095 hot rolled or pre ground aisi-01 this blade will be stock removel as i do not have a forge what do you guys think would be the best steel for this blade. if you want to see a simaler piece take a look at the DHA made by don fogg and tell me if you think this would work for my idea. by the way when i said heavy cutting i meant in the summer and winter in the mountains so there will be a lot of stress on this blade because of the temp changes. it will also be used for self defence as a last resort with big predators as we cannot carry guns here so i need to pick the best steel i can for my camping up here. please no stainless only high carbon or tool steel as rusting is not a big thing to me . thank you for any info
