Hope you guys could give me some advice. I'm kind of stuck on what my next purchase should be. I'm looking for a all-purpose camp knife, with a 6in blade, and quality leather sheath. The knife should be semi-custom or custom. My budget allows up to $250. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Rob

Well, I looked at every custom knive on agrussell.com, and all I can tell ya is what you're lookin' for isn't there.

Its funny you brought that up, I've been considering a couple of his camp knives.

Did I miss a few or is your criteria more flexible than you implied?

This isn't 6 inches but it's a great camp knife. The Dozier KS-7 Wilderness knife. It come with an excellent kydex sheath. All for just $245.

The Busse SJ is also a great mid sized knife for $227. Although the sheath is so so. If you like this one , better hurry, they have been discontinued.

Then there is the 2 Beckers in that size range.

For some great knives at a great price check out the Swamp Rat line of knives. They don't have a 6 incher, but all their stuff is quality. You could get a Camptramp and Bandicoot for about $250.

When it comes to quality leather sheaths, your more than likely going to have to buy that from someone else. I can't think of any knife companies that have really good leather. Unless you go completely custom and over the $250 mark.

I hope this is of help.

Edited to add; the Dozier is a 5'' and the Beckers are around the 5 1/2'' range.

I agree with the comments on Bob Dozier. He has any number of knives that would fit the bill, and are in your price range. He uses D2 and is consider the "Grand Master" of D2. You can check out has entire line at:

www.dozierknives.com

The other recommendations, above, are also very sound. Good luck.:)

You can't go wrong with the Dozier! The others are great knives too. To me there is just something about a finished blade as a user. I hate it when the finish gets scratched. Just my two cents.

Robert Hankins makes the kind and price range you are looking for.Good users.

Robert Hankins is a good rec.

I thought about all those cgd mentions, except the Becker.

The Dozier is great. It's just that my notion of a Camp Knife would be between 6-8". The SR is good, but after reading 'custom or semi-custom' I had the impression bc was looking for something more upmarket. I don't know why I didn't include the Busse really, as it is better still than the SR - other than it's been discontinued, as cgd says there.

Some would consider upmarket inappropriate for a Camp Knife of course - the 'banger' type notion I have in mind, at any rate.

Hey Big country , Try this i offer custom's and in the price range you speak of ! send me a P.M or E-Mail we can do something here with Leather .:D

Thanks huys for the all the advice. Your comments have helped me tremendously. Pinoy I'm sending you an email.

I have and love swamp rat knives. A camp tramp would be a very versitile knife. If I could choose only one knife right now I would choose my bandicoot. It was more than I expected. I have a howling rat on the way, that may change the favorite. The tramp and battle rat come with a cool sheath that includes a useful pocket.
