Guns are kinda gadgets so... :-)

My Mother-in-law has some guns and needs to get rid of them (I volunteered!).(They're not the 'style/action' of gun I would like to have, so I passed on getting them myself)

She's got two 12 guage shotguns (both Remingtons) and double barrell (Ithaca Hammerless) and a Sears .22 rifle.

She's also got a .22 revolver pistol...

What's the best way to maximize her return on these guns? I've never owned any myself and am unfamiliar with buying/selling. I was thinking of taking them to a gun shop and seeing what I could get for them...

Any advice?

Thanks!

Everyone should have a Remington pump-action shotgun in their collection. The other firearms might be subject to interest or taste, but a solid 12-gauge is a true workhorse that is also incredibly versatile.

If it is in sad shape, send it off to Scattergun Technologies (Wilson Combat) or preferably to VangComp for a little upgrading, tune-up, refinishing, and TLC.

Good luck,

Hey....

I also agree..
Even if they are not your style,, a Rem pump is nice to have....

That double chopped down would make a nice backup or "Drop" gun..:)

A .22 handgun is cheap to shoot,,and can be a hell of alot of fun....

some gun shops will sell on consignment and take either a percentage or a flat fee for doing so or you might try direct selling in the Shotgun News. Just remember that firearms must be shipped to an authorized FFL holder.

i too would be tempted to keep a few of them, but if ya wanna sell, a gun store would prob buy them, though i seriously doubt they will pay ya a good price for them, they gotta make $ too, i would sell them on one of the gun boards (ie AK47.net, AR15.net/etc) after ya figure out what they are worth, have had good luck this way myself........have sold 3 guns on AK net, and all the buyers have been w/in 20 miles or so of me....good luck to ya

Gun shops and Pawn shops are not going to "maximize" your return.

Do some research on-line to find out fair market value. Then either sell them on-line or through the newspaper (if that's allowed by editorial policy of the paper  ).

Remember that a private individual cannot ship directly to another private individual (might be able to with some intra-state transfers but, I'm not an expert on the subject so verify it first). You can ship directly to a valid FFL though which is how most people handle that sytle of transfer legally.

A Remington pump shotgun is something every man, woman, and supervised child should own. They are relatively cheap, durable, and safe. Use basic gun safety and common sense and there should never be a problem.
