I do not own any modern swords, and I thought as something different, I would purchase one. I have seen Cold Steel, but I think they are a bit overpriced.... Can you sword people throw some names at me? Thank you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "over priced." If you mean not a good value for the money that is one thing. If you mean more expensive then you want to pay that is something else. Also, you didn't mention what sort of swords you were interested in and / or if you were only interested in production makers or customs too...

Narrow it down for us a bit and I'm sure all sorts of people will chime in.

Hanwei is a quality producer, and their prices are generally lower than Cold Steel's. You might give them a look.

I wouldn't say cold steel is overpriced in that I expect to pay more for a real sword; cold steel is in my opinion low quality and prone to breaking etc.

Chris palmer makes some ok pieces at Scorpion Swords that are more modern and reasonably priced. John Gage also makes some nice tactical swords but break out the check book.

Does Angus Trim still sell? I have not seen him on Christian Fletcher's site for some time.

Other important questions...are you interested in European, Japanese, Chinese or other sword designs? CS makes a mix of swords from many different cultures and eras. Do you want a sword that handles like its historical counterpart? Do you plan to do cutting with it? How important is historical accuracy? All important questions that will affect recommendations and price points.

Also, with regard to Angus Trim, etc., you can still find Atrim swords through Valiant Armoury (who are also doing Christian Fletcher mods).

What do you mean by "modern sword." Are we talking modern takes on ancient designs, or just a sword produced by a modern manufacturer?

Hanwei has some nice affordable designs, but more information on what you're looking for will get better recommendations.
