Good evening folks, I need some help. I am fixing to start a sheath for a customer pretty soon. He wants a scout carry set-up. I was wanting to know your thoughts on a pouch style as compared to a stacked style? I was thinking of a stacked style with the normal double straps for mounting on the belt. Anyway just wanting to see what y`all thought. Thanks.

These are both crossdraw but could be converted to scout carry very easily durring construction....

My favorite is a hybrid idea. This is leather lined kydex. Absolute retention that kydex gives you with the look of leather.

This is a wet formed leather pouch that holds the knife really well and I have no doubt would work for scout carry but I do prefer some sort of retention strap.

Whatever you come up with, I am looking forward to seeing it.

The pouch vs the stacked style is dependent mostly on the specific knife. If there is little or no guard then pouch would be the preferred style. Moderate to large or double guard the stacked or blade sheath would be the best.

The pouch style is probably the easier of the two when it comes to belt loops.

The photos below show a few of the scout or horizontal sheaths I had made. I like to use the snap off belt loops, particularly for the scout carry configuration. Easy on, easy off.

First photo the knife has a lower guard only. The guard is inside the collar but not inside the mouth of the sheath. Next two have no guards, and the fourth has a small lower guard.

Those are really nice. I like the customization or markers mark on the first one. I am guessing it was done with a free hand groover? I do know what you mean with the great retention of kydex but I just don`t care for it much. Just old school I guess. On the second one I have not seen a design that has a wet formed opening that blends into stamping. Cool idea.

I have made cross draw sheaths with a single wide strip for your belt. For the one I am fixing to start on is for a long bladed knife. So I was thinking it would be better if I used the double strips for a better distribution on the length if that makes sense.

I have yet to post any pics of my work on this section due to it would be comparing a three legged donkey to a barn full of thoroughbreds. But I will post this one when I am done. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Paul for the insight. And also Paul, that first sheath in your pictures is absolutely perfect in every way. The knife I am fixing to start would probably be better suited for a pouch style. It does not have an actual finger guard. The handle has a resting place for the fingers.
