I have a taurus pt92 new 2006 looks similiar to m9a1 I was wondering if +p loads are ok in this pistol. I ask Taurus they said yes and no, not being clear. As long as the fps are within the limits of 1230 on a 124 gr bullet. But it might reduce the life of the firearm. My reaction was ??? I would only a limited amount around 400 to see if the gun would hold up and feed right. I like Speer and black hills ammunition in the +p loads. I fired reg loads from these manufacters. 500 each and no failure.

Thanks for the link. I know the Beretta and taurus 92 get a bum rap, but I really love this pistol. Easy to double tap out to 20 yards, and easy to maintain. I trust either one to protect my home.

I have 2 Beretta 92's. I love them they are great guns. I don't care for 9mm as a defensive round unless it is my own +p+ hand loads which match 357 Sig factory ballistics. A lot of factory 9mm ammo is about on par with 380 auto +p.

If you're nervous about +P then you might use Federal 9BP , a 115 standard pressure load that has always performed very well.If a 9mmisn't enough for you then get a 40 or 45 !!!

You could always get a heavier recoil spring and a polyurethane buffer to prevent frame/rail damage. Like others said, however, you should be okay with even +p+. Definately get your stuff from DoubleTap unless you're going to be handloading.

i got a taurus 92 in the mid 80's and no telling how many rounds of corbon 115gr i put thru it, its rated +P, and never a problem, imho the taurus 92 compares fairly favorobly to the berretta in every regard except trigger pull, the trigger on my taurus is a lot heavier than my berretta 92, of course the berretta cost probably 2X as much so i cant complain.

the taurus has also been completely reliable and acceptably accurate.

but no its not a problem at all to use +p or even +P+ in the taurus, at least until ya start talking 50K rounds or something like that, i am sure it accelerates wear to a small degree but the average shooter will never notice it imho.

Massad Ayoob - who has forgotten more about defensive firearm use and subsequent legal issues than many people will ever know - says that one should never use home loads for self-defence.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the defendant was so sadistic and bloodthirsty that none of the myriad of gut-ripping factory loads available was destructive enough for him..."

Any recommendations on brands for heavier recoil spring and buffer. About how much does this upgrade cost.

The 'never use hand loads for defense' is a myth as long as you use similar to factory handloads. The courtroom will establish first and foremost "was it a justified shoot". The other myth is thinking that that extra velocity is going to make a big difference. Bullet placement is still the most important thing....The first step is to get the very best training you can find.Without good training you are far more likely to miss and far more likely to be convicted !!!

Very simple solution my friend. I will use 357 sig for example. I use speer brass and gold dot bullets same as factory loads. They cant tell unless they do testing on the powder residue. If they ask if they are reloads I am going to say yes they are and I bought them from a guy at a gun show. They really cant do anything about it.

If they are completely compatible with M9's or 92FS's, then you can get recoil springs:

Recoil buffers:

http://www.buffertech.com/stores/1/BERETTA_92_96_P6C2.cfm

Or a Sprinco recoil reducing system (towards the bottom):

http://www.sprinco.com/recoil.html

Total cost should be less than $40-50 for both spring and buffer, and the sprinco systems are roughly $80.

Are you going to use it for carry? Buy whatever your local LEO's shoot and fire away. If you carry factory ammo, you'll be fine. 9mm will do just fine if you hit them right.
