Greetings all,
Does anyone know of any sites that review digital cameras? I have found what I think are some good deals, but I need to know if they indeed are a good price AND a good product.

Thank you in advance,
Mongo

Hi Mongo -

The above links are good, especially if you know a good flash-sync rate from a VR lens, but if you are a more casual photographer, and not up on all the techical lingo, I suggest you start off by reading Ken Rockwell's reviews...

www.kenrockwell.com

best regards -

I'll second http://www.kenrockwell.com/ . I've read a good portion of the links posted and in my own opinion, Ken Rockwell has the best reviews and information on line.

Check out his credentials, then (if your looking for a quality inexpensive DSLR) check out his review of the Nikon D40.

Seems I forgot to put his link in my post. I occasionally read his reviews, etc but take them with a grain of salt. He's somewhat of an odd character IMHO.

Elaborate please, character is in large part opinion. What has he said that would make you not trust him. I have found every one of his lens reviews (of lenses I have tried) to be dead on accurate. Same with the limited amount of cameras I have tried.

His site has taught me more about photography than every other site I have come across.

I won't say I don't trust him. I've learned from him too; I just find he's a bit close minded in his reviews sometimes. IIRC correctly I've heard him mention things like (and I'm paraphrasing here!)
- RAW being a waste of time, just shoot jpeg (I shoot only jpeg but find statements like that a bit ignorant).
- He seems to compare all cameras to the D40. Either he needs to update his reviews or he's got an agenda pushing sales for the D40.
- The way he words his reviews it's like do it his way or you're not doing it right.

I don't know, he just seems biased towards his personal opinions rather than being more objective or open minded in his reviews.
I like more specific analytical info in my reviews. His just seems a bit more amateur (and again, this is my humble opinion).

There are lots of people that like his reviews though so I guess he's doing something right. I just don't go to him as my first or second point of reference when I want a camera review. I'll maybe read his review just to see what he happens to think.

Gotcha, and I understand what your saying. I just don't read it that way.

One thing you have to keep in mind with him is, he isn't doing reviews for professionals or even those that want to get very technical (Those people know what they need and usually take very technical reviews with a grain of salt.). The site is geared for amateurs that just want good pictures without spending a fortune. Hence his love of the D40, a cheap DSLR with a sync speed of 1/500. Somewhere on that site he states he doesn't get a penny from Nikon, he just loves them.

I only know two professional photographers (married couple, so it makes it easy to pick their brains) and they reverberate almost everything he says, especially that it is the photographer not the camera that gets great pictures.
