Need some DVD help

I purchased a JVC XV-M567 3-disc DVD player a little over a year ago. About two weeks ago (of course right after the warranty exired) it started rejecting DVDs. It still plays audio CDs just fine, but when I try to play a DVD it just makes a whirring noise for about 90 seconds and then says "no disc". Every once in a while it will work as usual, but about 90% of the time it refuses to play.

Is there some sort of reset switch on DVD players, or any other solutions you can think of to this problem?

Data is read differently on audio cds than dvds. Sounds like the laser mechanism might be misaligned. Once these suckers break, it's usually not worth it to fix them. One year is pretty recent for it to break unless it's subject to a lot of vibrations and hard use (i.e. kids).

Most electronics you can take to a dealers rep and only pay for labor, and they will pay for parts.

Try cleaning it first. You can get a kit for a few bucks. You might have some dust on the DVD laser lens.
