Need some help converting a video.

I have a camcorder and put a fire wire port in my pc so I could upload video onto my pc. I use Roxio to redo and manipulate the video but it makes HRP files out of it and it won't show up when I post it online. Does anyone know how to convert it to a gif file? Thanks for any tips or help you can give me!!
 
I'm going to move this thread to Gadgets & Gear; I think some of the guys there will know what program to use for the conversion.
 
Find a friend with a Mac and the iMovie software. About the most painless way to save it as a .mov I know.
 
Windows Media Player. Go to Microsoft and download the WMP thing they have to convert, it works well and is really easy to use. I think you need WMP 9 but don't quote me on that.

EDIT: found the site WMP Encoder Look for the WMP Encoder.

My pc came with Windows Media Player but it must not be version 9.
I downloaded the video with it and it wouldn't play online at all.
Sure hope this one works!!
