Need some help identifying an old Buck knife to surprise my father

Hello,

I am new to this forum, but I have a dilemma and I figured this would be the place to ask. I just found a Buck knife tucked away in a car-bound survival kit my father threw together post 9/11, and we subsequently buried it under many things in the garage. I just came across it, and I have identified it to be a Nighthawk 650 fixed blade. My question is this: almost all of them I have been able to find have BUCK in white letters on one side of the blade, this one has no such letters. The couple I have found that only have the "BUCK, 650, U.S.A. Patent Pending" on it are listed as 'vintage'. I will attach a couple of pictures, and if anyone could help me date it with a range, I'd really appreciate it, as I would love to know more about it. Thanks!

Signed,
A guy with too many knives, but loves them all

Welcome to the buck forum and Bladeforums. There should be a mark of some type after the BUCK on your knife which would indicate the year or production. Something like BUCK/ or Buck - or Buck V. The ones you see on the auction site with white lettering also have a slot and two holes in the blade. Those are recent manufacture.

Here's a photo of some of my earlier Nighthawks.

Aha! You're right, there's a / that I hadn't even seen before you mentioned it! What does that signify? And thanks for the welcoming! I'm looking forward to kniving around on here with some fellow connoisseurs of the old steel

1993? Wow.. That's amazing. I imagine my father (the person who got me into knives in the first place) must have thrown himself into fits looking for it! A 21 year old knife is a hell of a thing. It's still shaving sharp, by the way. Thanks for all the help! :)
