I successfully made my first kydex sheath for a Mora Companion. It has great lock up and retention. I'm trying to make a sheath for the classic Mora and can't get it to work. It locks up just fine with tape on the blade, but as soon as I remove the tape it looses all retention. what is the best way to solve the problem? Im considering putting a notch in the handle so I can form the kydex to grip it, but it's for a friend and I'm not sure how he would feel about that. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Does the kydex go up onto the handle ?

If yes try heating the mouth of the sheath (top opening ) then take some flange pliers and squeeze it closed onto the handle, this should give you more retention.

Also how much tape are you using on the blade ? 2 layers per side should be plenty.

Hope that helps.

pics of what you have done so far would be great.

Ha. Yup a Texas kydex maker, well not really as I've only made one other sheath. If it helps I'm originally from PA.

I haven't tried squeezing the mouth of the sheath yet. I'll give it a go and see if that works.I've tried both a single and double layer of tape. Thanks for the suggestion! And if that doesn't work I will be back with some pics.
