Need some help. Modded or fake 810? (possible large pictures here)

Well, I picked up an 810 at a gunshow this afternoon. I'd reviewed the knife to a fairly minor extent online prior to today. Heard the issues some had with the aggressive handle and its (the handles) general shape, so my main focus today was to see how it actually fit my hand. I've done some minimal file/sanding on other knives in the past -such as the Rift, 806, and 610, so I figured I'd have no problem rounding the 810s handle if that's all it needed.
In any event, once I got the knife in hand, I was surprised to find it fit well, and it wasn't overly aggressive as I'd expected it to be. The price was right, so I bought it.

Now, I'm somewhat ashamed, frankly speaking, to say I failed to notice, at first, that the handle on this particular knife is actually quite different than on the 810s I'd seen online. On the ride home, I started thinking about it, and it hit me that it is in fact different, and I quickly confirmed that by searching/comparing pictures online. -The salesman never actually said this knife was new, but I'd say that was the general implication. Perhaps this would help explain the oddly low price ($135) for this knife.

So, I realize it's not uncommon for those who're capable to grind these handles down to a better fit for them, or for others. I'm hoping that's the case here. I suspect it is, as the knife seems genuine to me in every other way. I'm not new to the knife game, but it has been some years since I've been involved or purchased a newer knife. -Additionally I'm not sure if, or how well, these can be faked. Obviously there are quality fakes of some knives around.

My question is, is this a real 810 that's been modded, or is there reason to believe it's not an actual Benchmade product. -I'm not overly computer savvy, but I'll try to link to my flickr account or post actual pictures here. Please bare with me if this becomes a learning process.https://www.flickr.com/photos/24442016@N05/

Thanks for the time and help.

-Looks like it (the link) worked. By the way, oh how I so wish I still had those other knives picture on the flickr account :(.

Looks real to me.
I think it is exactly what you already suspect, a used 810 that has been de-horned, so to speak.
All the sharp points and edges have been rounded to increase the comfort factor.
Good deal!

I agree, I believe it's real. The de-hornification (yes, it's [now] a word) will happen with a lot of carry anyway. Use it in good health. :)

hardware, etching, g-10 all looks legit.

I'd say with 99.99% confidence that this is real, the 0.01% of doubt is placed in anyone being able to clone the knife that well.

Great find!

Thank you for the responses. I'm feeling better about this knife. -Initially thinking it could possibly be fake, to thinking I got one put over on me even after assuming it's real, to now looking at it like, hey, they sorta paid me to customize my handle. Not exactly what happened, of course, but that's how I'm tryin to look at it.

Seems like a fairly quality job they did on this. I've never actually held a stock 810, but this one feels good to me. I may still round over the G-10 edges slightly though. -I think I'm gonna really enjoy this knife.

Thanks again.
