Need some help on old Bali-song

Could someone please help advise me: I've got a late 70's Bali-song butterfly knife. The words Bali-song are written in the butterfly logo and on the cocoon sheath. The other side of the blade says "made in USA" and US patent #. It has a ss skeletonized 4" handle and a 440? 3 1/2" utility shaped blade. Still feels solid and handle has no scratches but blade has a few (but no damage). The latch has been cut off on purpose, I assume so it wouldn't swing back and chip the blade. Anyone know what it might be worth I'm looking to sell to fund other blades. I will thank you in advance, Smitty

It sounds like an old Pacific Cutlery (predecessor to Benchmade) WeeHawk. It's been a couple of years since I saw one for sale, I think the last one I saw sold around $80, but it had the latch intact.

hey if you can send me a pm id appreciate it, but i gotta say i doubt its worth 80 dollars. id say 30 tops i have gotten similar ones for about 10 bucks. they were probably around 100-150 (but may have been as low as 40) when new in the 70's. can i ask if it has pins that are ground down to be flush with the surface of the handles? if so then it probably is a genuine pacific cutlery and not a knock off. pacific cutlery tried to launch a bunch of different balis at the time to cash in on their popularity and thats part of what keeps the price low. they even offered a custom balisong service at the time and those are the most sought after at this time. i may be missing something that would make it more valuable tho..... there will be more knowledgeable people than me along shortly and they can pro bably tell you with the uttmost certainty what its worth id appreciate a pm either way. You really ough to find a way to post a pic even if its just a camera phone pic. the blade seems a little short to me to have been in the high end production model area as im pretty sure they were all full size.

Post this over in the balisong sub forum here with a pic,and you should get some better answers. If it says Bali-song on the blade,in a butterfly just like the benchmade sign, then it's worth way more then 30$ Make sure you find out the exact value of it before you sell it,cuz you wouldn't want to get ripped off.

Razorsdecent, you have to have a paid membership before you can receive private messages, and the OP would have to have at least a Gold membership to sell.

I'm guessing the knife looks something like this.

I've had that one since sometime in the mid-'80s.

The latch may have been cut off because certain jurisdictions prohibit butterfly knives that lock open. Hey, it doesn't have to make sense, it's the law.

Thank you gentlemen for all the help. This is my first time posting pics EVER so please be understanding. Yes it does say Bali-Song in the butterfly. Someone already posted a better pic then me but here it goes:

But didnt pacific cutlery introduce numerous offerings didnt the full size 4" blade sell at a premium and the smaller ones such as the one in the picture above sell at substantially less? Im curious as to the price now as well.

i know that some of the origionals go for way more than the origional price to collectors. edc knives had a kriss blade that went for a grand but as i said i think its the customs that went for a premium, i wish i had my jeff imada balisong manual with me the second one had prices for a bunch of the production bali's at the time.

I was under the impression that as long as it was sold independantly of bladeforums that it wouldnt matter. but either way im sorry if i made a mistake.

Btw i dont see the pic

Razor, working on the pics (all new to me). Same as picture provided above except you can not see the pins on mine at all. Mine might be in a little better shape then the pic above, but basically that's it. I am DETERMINED to figure out how to post pics, I will get it eventually. Thanks again for everyone's help. Smitty

well then it might be one of the higher quality as i said the flushed pins are one of the things that makes it an authentic pacific cutlery balisong. i believe at the factory they used to remove the pins with a ballpeen hammer and some soft leather so as not to mar the surface.

Smitty, the easiest way I've found is to open a free account on Photobucket. When you upload your pictures, it will give you a URL complete with image tags. Copy that and paste it into your post. That's what I do. ;)

That old Bali has seen a LOT of use, and I don't mean just being flipped around. I carried that thing for a work knife for a couple of years.

have you posted this on the balisong sub forum yet?
im sure there are some people there who could definatley set this straight once and for all.
