Need some help with a country song...

Greetings all, I just heard today for the first time a song titled (I think) "If something should happen". I didn't catch who sang it, but it is a powerful song. It's about a guy asking his best friend to take care of his wife and son because he's about to go into the hospital for something that may be fatal. Put a big lump in my throat just listening to the song.
Anybody knows who sings it?
