I'm getting ready to do a rehandle on a KaBar, well, not an actual KaBar, it's going to be on a immitation KaBar first then, maybe a real one if it turns out okay, but that's beside the point. I want to make it a one piece handle, maybe antler, I haven't decided yet. I think I've got this part figured out but I wanted to be sure, I would just drill straight through the handle with an appropriate sized bit to fit the tang, fill it with some type of glue and place it on the tang, and put the pommel on. Sound about right?

Second problem, from what I've read, in all liklihood, I going to need to saw the end of the handle off to remove the old handle. What would I replace the pommel with when finished?

I would advise using a drill press to drill the stainless pin from the pommel of the usmc. Actually I would advise using a drillpress for the tang hole aswell, find a bit that is the correct width and drill two pilot holes completely through the handle. (So it fits true, and doesn't have any play. Note the shape of the tang, if you only drill one hole, the handle will rotate around.) If you can save the pommel by drilling the pin, I would strongly advise doing so. Otherwise, you would probably have to saw the pommel off (shortening the tang, which I would avoid if possible) and drill either one or two holes in the tang, and either rivet or screw the antler directly to the tang through the holes. Goodluck. I've been thinking about doing this with my M2, but with canvas micarta.
