Hi I need help picking some damascus for my new knife I have decided on three patterns from two different makers the makers are devon thomas and robert eggerling the patterns i like from devon are sharks tooth and reptilian the pattern i like from eggerling is his snakeskin i really like them all but im leaning more towards roberts snakeskin any help on this would be great also what steels does robert use in his snakeskin is it stainless and who's steel cuts the best.

If you are going to use the knife, I would recommend that you go with one of the two Devin Thomas damascus steels that you mentioned. From my experience with damascus blades, the Thomas damascus takes a better edge and holds it longer than the Eggerling. If the knife is going to be a safe queen, though, I would recommend that you choose what you think looks best with the knife you are having made.

I don't remember what steels Robert Eggerling uses in his damascus, but I don't believe that he makes any stainless damascus at all. Devin Thomas definitely does make stainless damascus as well as carbon steel damascus.

Between the two choices you mentioned, I think the Thomas damascus cuts the best, but if you are considering other damascus steels as well, my own experience tells me that Damasteel takes the best edge and holds it the longest of all of the damascus out there.
