I do not normally post in this subforum, but I need a little help.

recently, my son attended scout camp and earned his frontiersman medal (black powder shooting, tomahawk throwing, and (i think) canoe).

We use black powder rifles for elk hunting, and I thought it might be nice to buy a small tomahawk for his gear in recognition of his achievements.

If it would not be too much trouble, please recommend a nice production tomahawk that is affordable and designed for work.
Here is Nate from last year.

Thank you.

Check with Steve at Coal Creek Forge see what he has on hand. Something hand made would go very well with the black powder rifle.
Congradulations to your son Great photo !
Or you could get a vector001 hawk...

Talk to Steve at Coal Creek Forge.....I think your son deserves something better than a cold steel....IMHO

Agreed - a great kid like your son certainly deserves something a little better than a $25 CS hawk. I would highly recommend anything from Steve at Coal Creek Forge, Dana Turner at Fort Turner (www.fortturner.com) or Keith Johnson at Great River Forge (his site is down though?). Anyway, here's some pics of each and they are all very reasonably priced for a hand forged hawk.

CCF Spike Hawk - one of Steve's $55 BF specials

Hello;

I'm just about brand new to this forum but I can offer you this.

After winning many, many Tomahawk matches over the years, at Friendship, Indiana and other matches, I can tell you that the hawks from the Hawken Shop in St. Louis, Missouri are among the very best. The balance on these are superb.

Regards

Matchlock

And the Man who make's these Hawk's Is a BuckSkinner TomaHawk Throwing Mountain Man/BuckSkinner ! Dana from Fort Tuner, Look through these Beauty's and find one that will suit your need's Check out the Trapper and the Camp TomaHawk they have the Hammer Poll and are a Great all purpose Hawk for Chopping Wood or Hammering Tent stake's http://www.fortturner.com/store/index.htm One of these Wont Break The Bank, And Is something that'll last your Son a Lifetime, Good Luck In your Search, And Keep your Son In the Wood's and make a BuckSkinner out of him !

Here's a picture with my Fort Turner Trapper In It, Very Handy Hawk, With the Hammer Poll and you can see In the picture the Cutting Edge profile/Grind Is Second to none, The Haft Is 15 3/16" the Hawk Head Is 5 1/4" From Hammer to the 3 3/16" Cutting Edge,

Ed,
I cannot contribute to the hawk hunt, but I want to compliment you on raising your son right. Way to go dad! You are an inspiration.
