Hey my fellow RAT and other gear fans! I need some help.

A buddy of mine sent me a message today saying he wants a good knife, flashlight, and headlamp for christmas.

Now, I'm already set on a knife for him, but as far as a flashlight and headlamp, that's where I could use some help.

He wants the best flashlight and headlamp that $50 each will buy. I'm a pure surefire nut, so I dont have a lot of ideas for him at the moment for a hand held. I do have a Princeton Tec Eos headlamp that I love and the price is right, but if yall have other suggestions, I'm up for em! Btw, He's not a crazy as we are so I'm thinkin lets keep the lights to AA or AAAs and not CR123s or anything like that.

Thanks guys.

They have the best high quality led flashlights.

OK this is WAY outside the price range but checkout the surefire Saint!
Its an aluminum headlamp, dual battery usage with 3 power configurations.
Price MSRP $150

make sure he gets a flashlight and headlamp that use the same size of batteries. it's a PITA when your torch uses AA and your headlamp uses AAA, or vice versa. I was only using petzl headlamps until princeton tec started selling one that uses CR123As, so if you're not going with a more esoteric battery I'd suggest that. try moosejaw and mountain gear (at least for the headlamp), they're running lots of holiday specials right now, 10% off and free shipping, that sort of thing. 4sevens for the hand torch, although battery junction and lighthound usually have some decent stuff on clearance and both have CPF discount codes.

That's good advice from Din on the battery matching. I would go with the Surefire G2 and the princeton tec headlamp that uses the same batts.

I used to be a Surefire nut, but I've expanded. Surefire makes great lights, period, but they're awefully proud of them and they think the addition of an LED is a big deal.

I'd highly recommend the Streamlight TL-2 LED if you're looking at CR123. It's not a pocket sized light, but it has made its way to the top of my light rotation.

You're on the right track with headlamps.

TG - thanks for the links. I'm going to pick-up one of those headbands for my PD20.
