Need some HOG advice, which ASH to use?

So I have the choice either between an LE or an CG. I want a light knife for backpacking, but I want some heaviness for chopping. While the blade is still usable for preparing food. I have been thinking about this for quite a while, so I decided to turn to the HOG's for advice...

If you are concerned about weight then you knife IS NOT a CG ASH. My CG Dbl Cut ASH is the same weight as a JASHBM

They were both the same weight to the gram! I forgot if it was 560 or 580 grams.

Yeah, the only thing stopping me from using my LE is I am afraid that it will not be a good chopper. Any one use there LE for chopping yet?

Some eyecandy...

The SE and LE are users. We'll see about the CG when my HOG knife gets here.

I've used my SE for chopping. It wasn't that great at it, but it's really sharp so it bites deep

I am going to use my CG DC ash as a user. I got the G10 mags to cut weight down.

I like weight for a general use knife. You never know when you need to pry and shimmy...:) Especially when a yowie is gnashen at ya heels...

I did think about the LE, but most tasks can be done with an AD or similar...

the scratchy finish is from my cleaning of it after i cut open some cardboard crates. i also stropped it on some green scotchbrite just to prove this is my user.

i'll tell you again, it's been a long time since i picked up a knife that just felt natural. i haven't found one flaw in this blade.

sure... it's not the perfect chopper, nor the perfect splinter digger, but it will baton chop and cut your finger and for an all around camp/woods carry blade it is totally awesome.

if you haven't decided to get one of these yet you had better decide fast. whether for use, investment or as a sexual aid you will not be disappointed.

this ash1-le is a winner imho, and i give it
i have to agree with skunk on this one

G10 weighs more than micarta . . . doesn't it?
depends, i can't remember the exact date, but one of the first times i met jerry he handed me a satin jack, straight handled, i remember two things about this moment.

first, the micarta was very heavy and upon closer examination it was from jerry's scotch soaked hands.

second, jerry just about crapped his pants when i stuck this jack in the crack above the door jam and hung on it. the blade flexed like a english long bow under the weight of my fat ash, but sprang back true as i let go with one hand falling to the floor while reaching for my drink.

oh! i remember this too, vicki was in cahoots with jerry, they presented a knife vicki had custom made for me. it was a great day, and i preceded to drink.

WOW....Now there's an AA you don't see every day. What are the handles made of?

thank you, they are made from oak. jerry said it was from an old oak that grew on on his property.

From his land to your hands...nice. Like the serrations too. I haven't seen that on an AA yet either.

If you want lightness, with moderate chopping abillities, coupled with the fact that you can spear a king boar, Rambo style with your knife on the end of a stick you lovingly shaped by hand, then by all means get the LE.

How big of stuff you think you're going to be hacking up anyways? if you plan on hand crafting a log cabin then I'd suggest a chainsaw and a team of oxen ;) if its simple shelter or the ocasional emergency life raft, you should be above just fine with the thinner blade. At camp, I personally like my lightweight Fiskars ax, plus a small and mid size knife. To each his own.

I am going to make an LE a user and a CG too. :D I think I will be making some concerted effort to go camping this summer. My boy is four and he is wanting to go, we'll see how that works out.
