Need some info about kydex

Basically I want to make a cover for my phone (Palm Pixi) and wondered if Kydex would be a suitable material. What happened was that another EDC item in my pocket pressed against the screen of my beloved phone causing it to crack. What I want to do is to use a sheet of kydex (.110" is the thickest I found) to create a shield for the front face that would clip on to the sides. Not to sure on the exact details yet, but basically I was wondering if .110" thick kydex would prevent a phone screen from cracking, ie pocket knife pushing against my phone screen with ~100lbs of force (guesstamation of possible force on phone exerted to my pocket knife then onto my phone screen).

I would really like to use some sort of metal, but I do not have the tools to easily create what I am picturing. I never had anything kydex, so I have no clue about the qualities of the material.

You can get .125" at knifekits.com, but I don't think you need it. I think .08" would be plenty. I'd bet you could even get away with .06", if you can figure out a way to build in some space, so that the Kydex isn't actually in contact with the screen.

Yeah I stumbled across it while looking some more. I am looking for the thickest because I want to distribute any pressure that would be but on my screen.

Thanks

I would go with .08 or .093 since they're so close in size. I think .06 is a bit thin for what you're describing and thicker than .093 would be harder to mold unless you get it hotter which would make me nervous molding to a phone. .093 might be a good place to start.

Like Unloved said, if you use another piece or something a little thinner as a spacer only while you're molding, it may help.
