Picked this up today at a local Army Surplus Store. CAMILLUS BK7. The steel is unfamiliar to me. Does anyone have some info about It?

I thought it was 1095. But honestly have no idea on the Cam version.
Basically bumping this up for you.

Just read a write-up where they say it's 1095 with some Vanadium.
So, 1095CV?

If I'm not mistaken, 0170-6 is another name for carbon V, and 1095cro van. There is a few threads here on it, where tooj (Paul tsujimoto, head of quality control at kabar for a few years, now working at Ontario) talks about it, I'm just having a hard time finding it on my phone at the moment.

The main difference in steel between the Camillus and kabar versions of the becker knives, is that the Camillus knives are a few RC harder. That means they tend the have better edge holding, but be a bit more brittle.

Good find.

Just curious. Was that new-in-box? Nice score if it was. (If so, I'm gonna keep looking for that elusive Pre '64 Model 70 tucked away in some backwoods hardware store. Hopefully in .300 or .375 H&H because nobody wanted it due to recoil and ammo prices . . .)

Found the relevant post when I jumped on the computer tonight.

From THIS post.

Relevant portion copied below. It was originally a question about exactly what steel cold steels "Carbon V" was, but it mentions 0170-6 as well.

Here is the correct time line:

1) Cold Steel Carbon V was first produced in the Alcas Factory (Cutco and KA-BAR) Mid 1980s, Carbon V was originally 1095CV/0170-06/50100B.
2) Cold Steel moved to Ontario early 1990s. Carbon V started out as 1095CV/0170-06/50100B but while at Ontario, Dan Maragni removed the small amount of nickel from the formula.
3) Cold Steel moved to Camillus approx. 1995. Carbon V stayed 0170-06 minus the nickel.

How do I know all of this?...I worked at all 3 factories.

You Sir, have made a very good find.
Should you decide to put this hen's tooth clan knife to use you will find it to be a very versatile piece.
Then again, because this is Blade Forums, you may want to consider picking up a Ka-Bar BK-7 as a "user" and save your Camillus version as "a keeper." Now that I have planted that seed - I will face the wrath of those who correctly state that Becker knives are meant to be used!

Now that's what you call HMI ... Horse's Mouth Intel!

No box but knife appears to be unused. I'll admire it for awhile then maybe sell or trade.

In the process you will be able to purchase a Ka-Bar BK-7 and have some cash for beer left over.

I was surprised to find it in a army surplus store.
