Scott, just picked this beautiful knife up, and I need some info...

It is 8" OAL, and .25" at the spine. it has what appears to be cold blueing on it, and some file work on the spine... It is marked SG on one side, and 05 on the other. What type of steel is this? I know that on my other Gossmans you stamp the steel type on the other side of the knife that your maker's stamp is on. Is this some kind of 05 steel? Or is 05 representing a date, like 2005? Also, what model is it?

It is Heavy!!! Heavier than some of my tuskers...

That was one I made in early 2005. The SG was my first mark. That steel is 1/4" 5160. The scales are bone stag. That was a design the original owner requested along with a cold blue finish. It's differentially HTed.

Yes, you could say that. :D I didn't really have any said designs back then. I started making particular designs/models, late in 2005 early 2006. That one is definately a hoss.

Yeah that one used to be mine.

Sorry I had to part with it Scott. Between deployments it became a safe queen and I just had to get it to someone who would use / appreciate it more then I was.

I do still have the combat-style knife you made for me ready to go for my eventual next trip to the sandbox!
