I recently seen a small made in Japan fixed blade belt knife that looks to be from the 70's or 80's? Seen it at an antique shop for $20. The small 3inch blade is mirror polished and it has stag handle scales, it's also shaped like a little pig sticker with a swege on top. Its marked ABE Co on the blade and I've never heard of this company before and can't find any info on it at all. Has anyone ever heard of this company before and could give some info on it? It's a nice looking little knife, but I just wasn't too sure about it.

Japanese Knife Making is very open to the internet. You can find all you like there. In knife making centres like Seki there are dozens if not hundreds of artisanal knife makers. Most of them (not all ) are on the internet. And they make amazing stuff. Visit, enjoy, evaluate and... visit again.

For $30.00? If you like it? Just go buy the darn knife! If Not, I’ll take it and pay you the shipping costs if you’re alright with that?

Rhino is on fire ! I'll be in on third... if it's genuinely Japanese.

Haha sorry to let you down guys, but I'm definitely gonna go buy it because $20 isn't too much, but hey I just thought I'd get some feedback about the company being legitimate or not first. Didn't really wanna go buy a fraud because hey $20 is $20 and I'd love for it to be a genuine Japanese made knife since it will be my first from Japan and that would be one heck of a bargain. But the knife looks good, so real or not it'll fit nicely in my collection.

Thanks and yeah I'll do some more searching.

Can you post a picture of your "Abe Co" knife?

First off, there are several ways to interpret the term "Japanese knife".
1) A knife made in Japan and marked by a Japanese maker
2) A knife made in Japan as OEM for a foreign (Usually U.S.) knife company
3) A knife made in a "Japanese style" regardless of where it was made

Without a photo, I am guessing that you are talking about (2) above. Specifically, a Parker "Honest Abe" knife. That was a name used for a series of knives by Jim Parker who built a factory in Seki Japan in the early 80s together with the knifemaker Seizo Imai. Some of the knives were marked Parker-Imai. As Seizo Imai ran the factory, the quality should be pretty good, as Imai himself was a custom knife maker. He passed away about 4-5 years ago.
However, I have never seen a "fixed blade" in the Honest Abe series, so I'd really like to see a photo, as it may be something entirely different.

A Japanese made fixed blade is well worth $20. I still love the craftmanship on those Japanese made blades from the 80's and 90's. Just do a search on ebay for "vintage Seki" and be prepared to drool.
