Greetings everyone

In general, i don't make many forays over here, but with my tastes changing, i'll be here more and more.

I don't have any customs at the moment, although i have just ordered my first, a Lightfoot Hammer Head.

While paging through an old issue of Knives illustrated, I noticed an article on D'Alton Holder's knives... Anyone know how i can get in contact with him? One of the interframe hunters in that peice was far, far too nice to ignore...

Any approx pricings, experiences good/bad, any info at all appreciated..

Thanks
James

Met him number of years ago at Florida Custom Knife Show - his work is some of the finest, cleanest nicest work you will find anywhere. The level of fit & finsh on every one of his knives I've seen is impeccable & his wonderful wife Pat is an incredibly talented engraver & sheath-maker. I was able to fufill a dream of many years recently by acquiring one of his "MY KNIFE" hunters with the stacked handle(Maple burl, yellow amber & Ebony) & it exceeded my high expectations, plus the sheath is schweeet! If you have a chance to acquire one of his knives you won't regret it. Plus he & Pat are two of the nicest people you can imagine. His knives are not inexpensive but you more than get your money's worth.

Just saw him and spoke with him this past weekend at the ECCKS. Really nice guy with great knives. Focus on hunters/using knives, but some very pretty. Most in the $400-$1000 range, I think. I got a beautiful knife of his at an auction a few months ago with a sheep horn handle and engraving. It feels great in the hand and is really solid.

D Alton, is president of our local knife collectors club and a pleasure to know. You will find him very personable and easy to talk with.
His home number is 623-878-3064.
If he's there he will usually pickup on the first few rings or so(He usually needs time to turn off the grinder). If he's out he WILL return your call.
For an Investment grade knife you can't go wrong!

D'Holder typically grinds only ATS-34 and he usually does a mirror finish (a fine one).

His strong niche is hunting blades with multisection handles. These are his signature items.

And they are very fine.

Dalton has a taste for great burl woods and amber. My D'Holder has some very red amber, spalted maple burl, and cocobolo. A beaut.

Figure out what you want the handle materials to be (multisection) and order it custom.

Dalton is a gem of a guy to work with, and as stated before, a class act.

Thanks for all the help guys...

Anyone else?

James
