I'm new here and was wondering about a several different 110's I've seen on ebay. I plan on adding to my collection with my income tax return.

1.) The 110 with the black 560 blade. Did they really only make 50 of them in the mid 90's? There seem to be quite a few on ebay right now for only making 50.

2.) How long did Buck offer the 110 with the black CPM 154 blade and rosewood grips? I understand they are discontinued but one seller has almost 60 for sale.

3.) When did Buck stop offering a damascus blade?

Thank you all for any info you can give.

The cpm154 rosewood 110 was a web special offered in the late spring of 2012. I think the 560 was a similar build out from earlier years but not sure. To clarify, a web special is an offerering on the Buck website and is comprized of clearance type knives and buildouts (frankensteins of left over parts). I would imagine a search of this forum will bring up more info on that 110 with 560 blade. 50 may not be an exact number but certainly may be accurate. I've seen numbers as few a 19 and as high as over 200 available when they get poste. As far as your damascus question, I dont know but someone will be along to answer.

Welcome to the forum.

ford, Buck made the model 560 for several years in the 90's, a ton of them. In many configurations of Ti handles. The first model was a 182. Some gents here collect them as thats a 'hot' model. They were offered with a 560 blade and 110 blades. The black coated 560 blades are more rare. This model is not my fote' and others here will have indepth knowledge on it. Buck made a 110 for Bass Pro which utilized blades of cpm-154 steel and came out in 2008 and were off and on mfg. them. These are desirable and if some seller has 60 of them, this is an opportunity as they're hard to find now. The Buck 110 damascus was brought out in 1986 with the 'V's date stamp and have been discontinued from the early 90's. I see those surface with some later dates at times. I held one today with stag handles. A beauty. Others will chime in to add to this. DM

Good info as always DM.

Old Ford, I dont know why I didnt post a pic yesterday but this is the model that I assume you are speaking of, though as DM says, there were others offered. Pictured with the matching 271 Alpha Dorado that was available as a web special in 2011.

Is that the knife in question?

I'm sure that the 110 with the black 560 blade is this one:

"110BO12 Folding Hunter, vintage Macassar Ebony handles, brass bolsters, vintage black powder coated 560 blades with 1995 date code mark. Includes black leather sheath, box and paperwork. Only 50 made, limit 2 per club member. $50"

They weren't sold on the web specials page, they were offered to Buck Collector's Club members via an e-mailed list sent out by Joe Houser. Joe says there were only 50 made, so I'd go with that number. They weren't made in the mid-90's, they were made in 2011 using left over blades from 1995. The e-mail sale was only good for a few days, then the remaining knives were to be sold in the factory store.

Here's more from the e-mail:

"The story is what makes these knife special so here they are:
The 110 and 112 were made with vintage macassar ebony inlays that I hung onto back when we made the switch from ebony to our current handle material. The blades for both knives were discovered in our parts archive."

The CPM154 110 wasn't a buildout, it has the same number as the knife offered exclusively by Bass Pro Shops (0110RWSBP5-B), mine has a build date on the box of 09/07/2011. I think they were clearing out over stock. I haven't checked to see if BPS is still selling them or not. If not, these could be left over from a cancelled order and there could be thousands of them out there.

Plumberdv. That too is the one I was asking about. I should have been more specific.

Thanks again everyone

Here's the two of them together. The blade and handle material differences are really obvious.

Good call Dave, my mistake.

great picts there my fellow Dave!
now .. I haves a question fer about all tho's new fingled folding hunters comeing out
I see dat one person called them thare build outs a frankstone knife..

but my burning question is .. well .. could they be considered in da same cat-o-gory as a custom ?
or Limited E-dit-shun ...???
I mean so what if'n the blade is a older blade and the wood real wood ?
it is a knife of which not many are made...
and is not like some o the 110's I hear dat have brass lock bar pins..

so are these build out knives considered odd and unusal ?
or are they jest left over stuff not to be shown in a knife show?
I guess I means .. I were going to have a few in my cases this weekend...
and wandered if that were a good thing or not?

Well, I suppose it just depends on how you feel about them. Some of the buildouts were made in very limited numbers so they would be much harder to find than say your average LE or SP knife. That alone (if they are something desireable) would seem to me to make them collectable.

I had a small display at the 2012 Pasadena show of buildouts that got lot's of attention. I also was having to constantly tell folks that they weren't for sale as there seemed to be a lot of interest.

Can anyone tell me about a BUCK USA .110.. half ivory and half black ebonywood handle with very ornate design on the non-sharpened side of the blade?

If you're referring to the one you posted pictures of in another thread, I can tell you a few things about it.

The three dots means that it (the original base knife) was made in 1980 with a 440C steel blade (first year with a bushing in the pivot hole). The fancy work on the back of the blade and the rest is called "filework" and is not original. I believe that you'll find it's an aftermarket custom job done by who knows who and done who knows when.

Yes, the same knife as posted on another thread. I appreciate your kind assistance. Thanks much.
