Need some input on Randall Stag

I have an Astro on order and that order is coming up in September ('04). It would be my second Randall order - but since I sold my first, it will be my only Randall knife.

My quandry is this - I have been attracted to the Model 1 w/ silver double hilt and stag grip. I know that Sambar Stag remains limited. I am debating on whether I should get the Model 1 with Stag now and then place an order for the Astro for the future (knowing that Black micarta will always be around).

Edited to add: cannot decide between the Model 1 w/ 5 or 8 inch blade.
I love nice blade grinds (which attracted me to the Astro in the first place, but I also love the classic fighter blade.)

Either way, this knife will be a collector item, not a user.

I find the 1-5 to be much more pleasing to the eye. Any chance I could talk you into the 1-7? I find that to be the nicest of all the #1's.

My personal favorite is the 27 Trail Blazer.

Maybe you can have both?

Order a Model 1 w/stag handle from AG Russell and use your currently existing order with RMK to get the Astro. I have ordered a Model 1 w/stag handle for a buddy and they got me the knife in less than three months.

If you're not gonna use it I'd go for the 1-8"...costs the same and there's a lot more knife there.

It is easier to find a model one than to find an Astro. If you want both knives, I suggest buying the Astro as intended. Then either order or shop for the model one.
