I'm looking for a new knife. I'm looking at the Buck Sirus, Kershaw Blur, & Kershaw Speed Bump. I have no idea what one is the better one. I'll be using it for EDC for general use.

What about Serrated? How hard is it to sharpen the Serrated part?

Black blades? Do they scratch easy?

I'm not familiar with those models, but I can tell you that a straight edge is way easier to sharpen than a serrated one. Black coated blades do scratch and wear off, I prefer the non coated ones.
Kershaw seems to make good blades lately, based on what I've handled. Sharp out of the box and well made.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I can see there are friendly people on this forum. I did do a search. Do you know how many posts have any of the above words in it? A LOT! I thought I might get someone who has possibly all three knifes that could give me some advice. Something that would be pretty hard to do a search on and finding it.

You also might want to do spell check next time before you post.

Your Welcome ....
Then I would assume A LOT of reading should be in the future.
People that get ahead in life are basically the ones who do their own leg work, instead of others, plus they feel better about a sense of self accomplisment, not even mentioning the knowledge gained.
See, that wasn't so difficult ...
Take Care ..

as far as serrations go im not ahuge fan. The black coatings do scratch but i find a well used coated knife has a lot of character imo. I really like uncoated blades as well but it doesnt really effect my purchase of a knife or not.

I dont own or handled any of the knives mentioned but definatly take a look at the benchmade and spyderco lineup(they are personally my two favorite knife companies) however, kershaw, buck are both great as well (I do own a buck 100 and a kershaw chive=))

Good luck on your choice and let us know what you decide. Also welcome to the forums bro

I have handeled both the kershaws you mention i prefer the blur because i simply despise the thumb stud lock but the blur series makes a great EDC.

Wow, I wasn't aware that this wasn't a forum for asking questions and posting opinions about knives. Son of a gun.

sbebenelli, looks like you're looking for a mid size assisted opening folder. I do not have any experience with those particular models you listed but I do own other knives from Buck and Kershaw that I'm quite happy with.

I hate to be a broken record but try the search function again. Narrow your search a bit. Play with it a bit and you should see some good results. Also try going to the company websites for Buck and Kershaw to get more info on those models. This website does have a sub-forum for Buck Knives and there is a rather lively thread on Kershaw products on the main board with direct input from a Kershaw rep.

I hope you find the info you're looking for and please do not let the less cordial forum members discourage you from asking questions. Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

Howdy,
Welcome!
Of the three listed, I have none. So I can give you generalities only.

The steel is about the same for all: Sandvik 13C26 (440A if you buy older stock) vs Buck 420HC. Neither is a champion at edge retension although neither is a dog either if designed correctly. Both are quite corrosion resistant. I keep reading feedback that Buck has really done its homework on its blade geometry. And of course Buck is famous for a great heat treat. Geometry and Heat Treat are as important as the steel. And I have read some really nice reviews of the performance of Kershaw's 13C26.

Both Kershaw and Buck provide a quality product. They are all in the same price range. I don't think there is a "best" among these three. For these three, it come down to what feels best in your hand and what blade aesthetics please you most.

Plain edges are easier to sharpen. If I were planning to cut a lot of cordage, I might be interested in a serrated.

All blade coatings scratch. Some more easily than others. Depends on what the coating is.

I liked my kershaw assisted opener until I lost it:thumbdn: .Check out the waved Spyderco Endura 4. You can pick one up at Knife Outlet.com for $59.95. For that matter which ever you decide, check out their prices. they are hard to beat:thumbup:

Well, the only knife of the three that I've owned is the Blur, and it is a fantastic knife in my opinion. I've also had first hand experience with Kershaw's customer service, and they are truly wonderful to deal with. I've bought two Bucks lately and they have both come extremely sharp, and have had great fit and finish, but I don't know anything about the sirius. I also dislike serrations as they are time consuming to sharpen and not needed for most of the things that I use a knife for, although many people prefer serrations. Good luck, and people here are generally nicer than the negative post above. Stay around....
